The Up-Country of the Carolinas was under control of the
British / Tory from 1778 to 1781 during the American Revolution.
and General George Washington could not afford the men to protect
the South until late September of 1779 With General Benjamin Lincoln
"Campaign in the south" Several battles were fought at Camden, Charleston
King's Mountain, Cowpens, Guilford Court-House, Hobkirk's Hill, Ninety-Six
and Eutaw Springs with "Militia" volunteers from Spartanburg, Union, and
York counties.
