My family is all well & doing well so far as I know. I have not hard from James since the 17th of Apr he is south of Richman abt 60 mis if he is livin yeat. they went to cut the teensee rail road in connection with Richman to cut off their supplies and reinforcements. We have had some fifty to sixty thousand killed and wounded in the last 2 days. you and I will be veary looky if we ever see our sons again. thay stand a hundred chances to git kiled whare thay have one to esscape. this war is a horable thing. The children are Harry,age 7,Clarenee, a daug. age 5, George, age 3, Mary age 2, and Sue, age 1. There appears to be a discrepancy in that Clarenee should have been Clarence, a son. They have reared 5 chldrn: Henry F., George E., Emma, John K. & Lizzie M. Comrade. Horner's record as a soldier was one of gallantry & faithful service; he was 28 yrs of age when he was enrolled from Pittsburg, PA, Sept 10 1864 as a private in Co G, 93rd Pa V.I., 1st Brig., 2d Div., 3d A.C. & in due time was made Corp. He took part in the engagements of Cedar Creek & Petersburg & numerous skirmishes, receiving & honorable discharge Jun 20 1865 at Washington, DC. His bro., John & his wife's bro. Jonathon, served in the late war as members of PA regiments. Comrade Horner serves on the election board; he is living in retirement & his address is Johnstown, PA"
