William Kennell & his family leave Somerset Co. during the late summer of 1860. It is not known why but a large group of Somerset-countians move west to open territory in IL & IA. Many familes from Wellersburg left at this same time & resettle Tama Co., IA. William & Mary take all their chldn except for their eldest son, John Alexander Kennell. John chose to stay behind because he had m. Elizabeth Bone, Londonderry Twp. , Bedford Co., the previous fall, Oct 1859. Little is known of William & Mary's life after they went west. However, recently records have been uncovered to show that they lived a very long life, notably happy, in their new home. Their chldn m. & settled Highland Twp., Tama Co., IA. William m. [NI079788] Peter Kennel left PA & moved with his family to Washington &Frederick Co., MD. He is not listed on the 1790 census - althoughthis was destroyed by fire. Around 1787-1790 many of the people ofFrederick Co. moved west of the Old Cumberland Fort to what is presentday Garrett Co.. L & grants were also issued to Rev. War service Somerset Co.. Johann m. [NI079789] Joseph Kennel b. abt 1700 in Palatine of Germany. d. abt 7 Jun 1766 White Hall Twp. Northampton, Pa from Wagon upset while crossing the Perkomen River. Notes Joseph Kennel lived in Schallbach, a village in Elbass-Lothingen, a province in Alsace, France. He m. Sara Deller [Teller] also of Schallbach. Sara was a widow with a small chld, Johannes Huntziger. Joseph & Sara had 8 chldn of their own, 5 of which survived to adulthood in PA Joseph's bro.'s name was Henirich & his sis.s name was Maria. There parents names are not known but it is possible that his father was also Henrich. They would have been from the same small village in Schallbach. Joseph brought his family to America in 1751 aboard the ship bro.s. He signed the oath of allegience on 16th of Sep. 1751. [List 169C] At the court house at Philadelphia on Mon., 16th of Sep. 1751. Present: The Worshipful, The Mayor, Thomas Tork, Esquire. The foreigners whose names appear are underwritten, imported in the Ship bro.s, Capt. [Philip, his father, came from Germany to Brother's Valley abt 1783. He was a tailor by trade, but followed farming in Somerset Co. d in Brother's Valley. [NI079835] He adopted Julia's 2 chldn & educated them in St. Louis. George was "a very quiet gentleman of the old school of the Catholic faith." Catherine was the 1st of the "2nd set" of chldn & the family increased on the average of every 2 yrs. The chldn were all very good looking with blue eyes & dark hair with the exception of Mary Theresa (Mollie) & Clara, who were considered very beautiful. The family wound up in Pottsville, PA, a coal mining town. The Reppliers lived in a home in Pottsville known as "Rosebank" & was known as one of the town's most hospitable homes. George, along with John Bannan, owned & operated Brookside, one of the best coal interests, later purchased by the Reading Coal Co. The family lived for a time in Philadelphia, & all the girls were educated at Notre Dame. George failed in his coal enterprises &, in trying to make good on his debts, became ill & d. at 53. George's body was placed in a vault in the Catholic Cem. on South 13th St. opposite Wannamakers, where he remained until his widow d. & he was brought to Pottsville where they both are buried. Philip Kuchenthal, Julia's father is also buried in the same lot. Mollie is also buried in the same lot.

Ephraim Joseph McKenzie, s/o Joseph & Margaret McKenzie, both deceased, was b Greenville Twp on the farm, Jul 8 1852. Abt 1890, the family moved from the farm in Meyersdale & he was here abt 5 yrs when he went to Pittsburg. In May 1900, he m Miss Mary E. Weber, d/o Mrs. Anna Weber & the late George Weber, & resided since in Pittsburgh, where he was engaged in electrical contracting work. He was taken sick on 23 May & was operated on at St. Joseph's hosp for appendicitis & gall bladder. He was in the hosp 3 wks when he was removed to his home, 157 Southern Ave., Knoxville, PA, but never fully recovered. Abt 3 wks before his death, he had a sever attack of acute indigestion, from which he gradually grew weaker. He d Fri Jul 14 1911, at 4 pm of acute gastritis at his home. The remains were brought to the home of his mother-in-law, Mrs. Anna Weber, Sat eve, on Duquesne. The funeral servs took place Mon 9 am at SS Philip & James Cath Ch with a solemn high requiem, with Rev. Father Brady pastor celebrant, Rev. Father J.F. Looney, Lilly, PA, deacon; Rev. Father George Quinn, West Salisbury, subdeacon. Bur Cath cem. While residing in Pittsburgh he was a devout memb St. Cancie's ch, Knoxville, & also a memb C.M.B.A. branch, No. 159. He is survived by his widow & the following bros & sis': George McKenzie, Hebron, NE; Misses Tillie & Kate McKenzie, Baltimore, MD, & Mrs. George F. Breig, Vandergrift, PA. The funeral was very largely attended. Mr. McKenzie was of a very quiet disposition & well liked by all who knew him.

[NI080568] Johann Adam Dietel (AKA Adam Diettle) was the progenitor of the Dietle/Deitle family of Somerset Co. b. Mar 18 1809, Selbitz, Bavaria d. Jan 24 1869 5�9� tall, with a longish face & high forehead, brn hair, & gray eyes. Weaver by trade. 2 chldrn also came to Amer. & settled in Somerset Co.: John Adam Dietle (anc. of the Dietle branch) & John Nicholas Dieddle (anc. of the Deitle branch). Other chldrn may have stayed behind in Europe. According to his Wanderbuch, Johann Adam Dietel left Berneck, Bavaria in the middle of Aug 1839 with official permission to travel to N. Amer. He traveled in a more or less straight line from Berneck to Bremen, where he was validated for travel to Baltimore Aug 30 1839. He made his declaration of intention to become a citizen in Sep 1845 & was admitted to citizenship Sep 5 1848. Johann Adam Dietel & his wife Mary Ann (AKA Anna Maria) bur. Greenville Union Cem. along with a number of generations of desc. Mary Ann d. age of 59 yrs. 11 mo. 9 dys Dec 9 1872. They were living in Elk Lick twp 1850, & in Greenville twp 1860. Mary Ann was living alone in Greenville Twp 1870. Greenville Union Ch. records show them receiving the sacrament of the Lord�s Supper as members of the Evan. Luth. Congregation May 3 1854 & as members of the Luth. Congregation May 23 1858.

OZIAS WEIMER Meyersdale Republican Oct. 8, 1931 Elizabeth (Breig) Weimer w/o Ozias Weimer, both long resids of Greenville Twp, passed away at Weimer home near Baker School at 6 pm Sun Oct 4 at the age of 79 y 9 m 3 d. Her death was due to infirmities of old age. She was b Salisbury, Jan 1 1852 d/o Ambrose & Margaret BREIG. Mrs. Weimer's eye-sight failed abt 10yrs ago & she became totally blind. Despite this handicap she was able to do a considerable amount of knitting & other handwork, & bore her affliction cheerfully. Several times during the past few yrs she was critically ill, & sev mos ago suffered a slight stroke of paralysis & since then grew increasingly weaker until the end came peacefully Sun eve, with all her living chdn, save 1, around her. 1 son, Bernard d abt 12 yrs ago & her son Samuel preceded her in death by 4 ds. She was communicant of St. Michael's Ch, West Salisbury, where funeral will be at 10 am Thu Oct 8 by her pastor, Rev. Father Howard T. Miller. Bur ch cem. R. Reich & Son undertakers in charge. Mrs. Weimer is survived by her husb & following chdn: Edward, Aviaton, MD; Alfred, Salisbury, PA; Lawrence & John, at home; George, residing on adjoining farm; James, Mt. We have been informed at the time of going to press that the dwelling Mr. Nicholas Becher, was consumed last night with himself, wife, & 2 dau.s, A young man sleeping in one of the apartments of the house became awaked in time to save himself & 2 chdn. Mr. Becher resided near Bucks Mills, Allegheny twp. We will give the full particulars next week. [NI081066] Joshua enlisted in Co. D, 133rd PA Vol. Inf. Aug 5 1862 at age of 18. In Washington, DC, his co. was assigned to the Army of the Potomac. he participated in the Battle of Fredricksburg under the comm. of General A. E. Burnsides & was afterward confined to the hosp. with measles. On the expiration of his term of enlistment he was discharged May 26 1863. On 26 Sep. 1863, he was drafted into Co. I, 52nd PA Vol. Inf. He joined his regiment at Morris Island, where he remained until after Sherman captured Charleston, where he was on picket duty for 8 dys. He went to Beaufort, SC by boat, then to Goldsboro, NC. He later joined Sherman's army at Raleigh, NC. he was mustered out at Salisbury, NC & finally discharged Jun 23 1865, having never been wounded or captured. Joshua took his family from PA to IL to NE after the Civil War in a covered wagon. His mother would not cross the Missouri River until it froze over so, they had to wait until winter. His farm in NE was located on sect. 31, twp 15, range 3 in Polk Co. Joshua had the 1st store in NE Territory. It was called the Beulah Store in the town of Beulah. There was also a blacksmith shop in the building. The family lived behind the store in the same building.
