In 1894, he m Leah Hostetler, who preceded him in death in 1940. To this union were b 6 sons & 1 dau. 3 sons survive (Irvin M, John C, Lemon G, all Hollsopple). He is also survived by 14 gchdn, 24 ggchdn, & 1 bro (Joseph, of Hollsopple). In 1941, he m Leah Berkey. She also survives him. 3 sons & 1 dau preceded him in death. To this union were b William H & Nettie Myers Foust. This companion & mother was called to her reward on Nov 10 1888. He again m Lizzie, d/o Jacob & Marie Schrock, to which union were b Riley I, Noah M, John P, Ethel J, & Ralph R. The departed was s/o in a family of 9 chdn, & moved with his parents from Lancaster Co, Pa, to Miami Co, IN, when 6y of age, in which co he continued to reside until his death. He leaves to mourn their loss a loving wife, all of above named chdn, a bro, a sis, & host of friends & relatives. Bro John united with Menn Ch in spring of 1896, of which he was a consistent memb until death. He suffered much during his affliction & bore it all with patience. Through his death, family lost a loving, patient father, ch a safe counsellor, community an earnest, helpful neighbor. Funeral on 13th at Menn Ch attended by lg concourse of people. Servs conducted by E A Mast & J S Horner from 23rd Psalm.

Death due to a heart attack. On Oct 19 1902, he m Clara Weaver & to this union were b 8 chdn. [NI189469] During Civil War, William R enlisted at Cumberland, Md, on Mar 6 1862 as Pvt in Co C 2nd Reg't of Potomic Home Brigade MD Inf, to serve a period of 3 yrs. At this time, he described himself as 5' 10" tall, light complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, & occup farmer. His name appears on the rolls of Co C from muster in date to Apr 1863. In May & Jun 1863 he was absent, sick in hosp in Cumberland, MD. In Jul & Aug 1863 he was absent w/o permission. He was again present from Jul 1863 until mid Jun 1864. In Jul & Aug 1864 he was again absent, sick in Cumberland, Md. Around this time he was transferred to Co A Vet Batt 2nd Reg't of Potomic Home Brigade Inf. Co A rolls show him present until his muster out date of Mar 7 1865 with rank of Pvt. After his Civil War serv, he resided in Accident, MD for 2 yrs; Oakland, MD for 9 yrs; George's Creek, MD 4 or 5 yrs; Youngstown, PA for 9 yrs; Latrobe, Westmoreland Co, PA for 2-3 yrs; Clearfield Co, PA for 2 yrs; Uniontown, Fayette Co, PA for 2 yrs; Brownsville, Fayette Co, PA for 1 yr, & California, Washington Co, PA. He was employed as a state boss & running engines. On Jul 26 1888 William R Cross appeared before George W. Kistner, Clerk of Quarter Sessions Court in Westmoreland Co, PA, to apply for an invalid pension. He was 55 at this time & was living in Unity, Westmoreland Co, PA. He stated that "at Patterson Creek near Cumberland, MD in middle of Jun 1864 he had contracted rheumatism from exposure & hard serv." He was treated by reg't surgeon for abt 2mos & at various times afterwards for same disease. He claimed he was totally disabled from obtaining his subsistence by manual labor. (Pension certificate # 772468) He was residing at California, Washington Co, PA in Jul 1898. 1900 Fayette Co, Jefferson Twp, PA, census. After death of his wife in 1907, for a while he made his home with his oldest son John M Cross. In Feb 1908 he was living at Adamsburg, Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania. In April 1908 at California, Washington Co, PA. 1910 US Census, PA, Washington Co, East Pike Run, Smallwood Short St, living with his son, John M. Cross, & family. In Aug 1911, he moved to Coal Center, Washington Co, Pa. In May 1912 he was residing in Clearfield Co, Pa, then Charleroi, Washington Co, Pa. William R d at home of his son, John M Cross, Deer Park, Garrett Co, MD. He was found dead in bed due to heart failure. He was bur at Paradise Cem near Deer Park, MD

[NI189497] Herald of Truth Vol XXXV No 13 Jul 1 1898 pg 205 & 206. SAYLOR. On 2 Jun l898, Somerset Co, Pa Norman s/o Jacob & Catherine Saylor, met with a sad & fatal accident which was a shock to the family & to the whole community. He went out into coal mine in the morn on his father's farm to dig coal & when he didn't return for dinner his father went to look for him & found him d under a pc of slate that broke down in the bank. We believe he was instantly killed. The age of deceased was 15y 18d. He was memb Menn Ch when 12y of age. We truly sympathize with brother & sister in their bereavement. Not quite 3y ago they lost their only dau by a sad accident: she being shot by one of their neighbor's chdn. Funeral Thomas M H by S G Shelter, Samuel Gindlesperger & L A Bough.
