He leaves to mourn his early departure an aged gfather, father, mother, 2 bros, 7 sis' & number of relatives & friends. He united with Menn Ch in fall of 1916. Roy's death was result of an accident, which befell him on 1st day of April while at work on his father's farm, with a 4-horse team & disc, horses became frightened & started running & became unmanageable & in trying to clear himself from danger, Roy in some manner was caught & thrown under blades of disc, causing his right foot & leg to be frightfully cut. W R Bonham & son who were passing near by rushed to his aid immediately. Med aid was also given him as quickly as possible & he was taken to above named hosp at once but his weakened condition, caused by loss of blood & poison which developed, proved to be too great a shock for physical body to endure, & all that human skill could do for him failed to stay death. Funeral Timber Ch Sun afternoon Apr 7, where a large number of neighbors & friends assembled to pay their last respect to departed bro. He was instrumental in organizing archives at Menn Historical Society of IA, of which he was life memb. In 1973, he was appointed archivist, position he held for 7 yrs. He was assistant archivist until 1983. For 15 yrs he conducted Sun school at Univ Hosp in IA City. He also made monthly visits to men's reformatory at Anamosa & to prison at Ft Madison. On 23 Sep 1889, Amish, Johnson co, IA of heart troubles & general bodily infirmities, Bro Daniel P Guengerich aged 76y 1m 25d. At times he suffered great pain. He was bur on 5th in ch burgrd. Serv by Peter Y Brenneman & Bish William K Miller. Bro Guengerich was memb old Amish ch. He was b Germany. In 1833 he came with his mother & step-father Jacob Schwartzendruber to Amer & settled in Somerset co, PA, m 1835 to Susanna Miller, d/o Bish Benedict Miller, after which he moved to Fairfield co, OH. In 1846 he moved from there with another family to IA Territory, settling in Johnson co. The 1st 6 or 8 yrs they had many hardships incident to frontier life. The 1st meeting was held in his house, 14x16 ft in size, by Bish Joseph Goldschmidt, Lee co, IA who was there on a visit. 6 membs were present. In 1857 his step-father, Jacob Schwartzendruder came with his family & settled in Johnson co. In the same yr the ch was organized, & since that time serv have been held regularly. Bish J Schwartzendruber labored faithfully in the ch until death & ch grew & prospered until before Bro Guengerich's death 4 lg congregations are to be found in Johnson & adjoining cos. He leaves 5 chdn, 3 sons & 2 daus, abt 30 gchdn & 3 ggchdn to mourn.

On 25 Jun, Reno co, KS of heart disease, Susanna Guengerich d/o Bish Benedict Miller, MD & w/o Daniel P Guengerich, Amish, Johnson co, IA aged 76y 8m 20d. She leaves her husb, 3 sons & 2 daus to mourn. She lived in matrimony over 53 yrs. She & her husb & another family were 1st Amish settlers in Johnson co, IA having moved there 1846. The 1st meeting was held in little hut 12x14 ft at which 4 membs were present. There are now 4 lg congregations in this vicinity. On 21 May she & her husb left home to visit their chdn in KS. While they were staying several days with their dau in order to rest she became unwell. She also fell & sustained some internal injuries. However she seemed to have recovered in abt 8 or 10 days. In eve she expressed the belief that she could now rest well again & that it would be unnecessary to watch at her bedside. Her son nevertheless remained with her. She fell into a gentle slumber from which she never awoke. On 27th her remains were conveyed home & bur in Amish grvyd. Serv by Peter Riesinger & J F Schwartzendruber.
