Gerhard Hommertzheim* [Parents] [image] 1, 2, 3 was born 4, 5, 6 on 1 Jun 1843 in Rohr, Nordheim-Westphalia, Germany (Prussia) and was christened 7 on 1 Jun 1843 in Rohr, Nordheim Westphalia, Germany (Prussia). He died 8, 9 on 26 Oct 1906 in rural Andale, Sedgwick co, KS and was buried 10, 11 on 30 Oct 1906 in St Mary's of Aleppo Church Cem; Aleppo, Sedgwick co, KS. Gerhard married 12 Anna Maria Langenfeld* on 25/26 Jan 1877 in St Mary Catholic Church; New Trier, Dakota co, MN.

Dorothy Scheer writes in her report that Gerhard was 27 years old and single when he came to America in 1870. "He settled near a married sister, Anna Gertrude Hommersheim and her husband Ludwig Giefer, in Dakota County, Minnesota."
Nov 1874, in Dakota County, Minnesota, Gerhard filed a Declaration of Intent to become a United States citizen. In 1876, after spending five years in Minnesota, Gerhard along "with other German Immigrantrs from Dakota County, headed South". He arrived in Sedgwick County, Kansas and "filed a homestead patent on 160 acres of Osage Indian Trust Lands."
"He lived there a year, and during that time improved the farm to meet homesteading rquirements. On 2 January 1877 he appeared at the land office in Sedgwick County, Kansas and filed his affidavits. He was allowed to purchase his homestead land for $1.25 per acre."
"Gerhard then returned to Minnesota and married German born, Anna Maria Langenfeld, on 26 Jan 1877 in the New Trier Catholic Church in Dakota County. They immediately returned to their new home in Kansas."
Gerhard and Anna "settled on the farm he had prepared for them. It was located in rural Andale, Sedgwick County, Kansas. They were members of St. Mark's Catholic Church until St. Mary's Church was built in 1891 at Aleppo. They were then in St. Mary's parish."

Gerhard moved from Dakota county, Minnesota to Sedgwick county, Kansas and started the "Hommertzheim Family Homestead". Located South of Andale, Sedgwick county, Kansas and a couple miles North of Aleppo, Sedgwick county, Kansas. The family members buried in this area are buried in the Catholic Church Cemetery of St Mary's of Aleppo.
This information was passed on to me by my father, F.M. "Pete" Hommertzheim & Fred Hommertzheim, great grandson of Gerhard, who lives on and is the present owner of the original homestead. This is also the home in which Fred was raised, his father owning it before him. Fred is descended from Gerhard through his son William and William's son Gerhard.

Gerhard (Hummertzhem; on transcribed record) took oath for Naturalization on "24 Sept 1906". This in "Book C; Page 88; # 797"; his residence at this time was given as "Andale, (Sedgwick co), KS, Route 1; the date of intent was "2 Nov 1874" in "Dakota co, MN".
Witnesses were Nick Klein & Mat J.O. Giefer.

Bill served in the U.S.Army; Doris ( Bill's brother"Pete's" wife) says he was stationed in Texas; although he didn't especially like it there, he couldn't get transfered any where else; they wanted to keep him there because he was the only one who could weld some sort of pot metal and aluminum. After discharge from the Army, Bill came back home to Sharon, Kansas where he went into partnership with his father in a garage / service station in Sharon;
On Nov 9th, 1948, Bill and Margaret Fisher were married in Sharon, Kansas in St Boniface Catholic Church.

Soc. Sec. Death Index:
shows "long-time or retired railroad worker"; "Pete" & Doris Hommertzheim both say that this information is possibly incorrect, other than being in the Army, as far as they know, the only place Bill worked was at the garage in Sharon, Kansas.

There are 2 John Cave's in the 1810 & 1820 NC census, Surry county; 1820 census has them as Jr, & Sr;
only 1 John Cave continues for 1830 & 1840.

Frances is speculation, I have put her here and will eventually see if this piece of the puzzel fits;
Jim Cave has information which suggests John Cave, Sr married a Snow.

"Some researchers believe that John Sr. married a Snow. So far we have not found a marriage license or land records bearing her name."

Bartlett's marriage to Jennie Snow is recorded in Orange co, VA; recorded as Bartlett Cave, Jr. (Jr did not necessarily indicate that father's name was the same; but could indicate another person with same name in the area at the time; probably a relative, Jr merely indicated the younger of the two)
Some of Bartlett's children were born in VA, some in NC;
Bartlett Cave in 1820 NC census, Surry co; 1840 Census for Jackson co, MO; shows Bartlett Cave as between 70 & 80 yrs old; not on 1850 census.
