From information I have gathered from various books, William Calvin Tate was one of six men murdered near Lone Jack, Missouri on 6 Sept 1863 for being a known sourthern sympathizers. As they were preparing to leave the county to comply with Order # 11 they were taken from their homes by a squad of soldiers belonging to the 9th Kansas Regiment, under the command of Captain C.F. Coleman and taken to a nearby farm where they were murdered in cold blood.
When Calvin Tate was murdered he "--left his wife, Martha, and three small children."

Martha J. "Mattie" Rice [Parents] 1, 2, 3, 4 was born 5, 6 on 11 Feb 1836 in Cass co, MO. She died 7, 8 on 4 Jan 1870 in Jackson co, MO. Martha married 9 William Calvin Tate in 1856 in MO.
