Denney - Denny Families Page

The "FAMILIES" page is devoted to guiding you through the searching of my family GEDCOMS. Please read all of my notes before searching GEDCOMS.

Due to the large number of people in my database on Samuel Denny of Surry County, NC, I will break down his family by making a GEDCOM for each of his children's families. There will be two GEDCOMS for each child, the original which is in Family Group Sheet format which most researchers are familiar with and my new additions, GEDCOMS which can be viewed in many formats and allow you access to a multitude of data on the people.

For housekeeping purposes, I have listed all Denneys/Dennys as DENNEY in my records. I hope this does not offend anyone as we are all one grand family.

Dates have been stripped of all living persons and/or for those that we are unsure if they are deceased. This is done for privacy reasons.

The data in these GEDCOMS is not guaranteed to be correct. I work with many people and sources to gather data and as any other researcher knows, about 75% of data you collect has problems. I assume the data is as accurate as it can be at the time I collect it and post same until proved or disproved with further researching.

Anyone being offended by having their family line shown here, notify me and I will remove them from my database.

I have attached some persons & family lines without concrete proof of them belonging there. These occasions are usually based upon the submitter of the data being adamant that they belong there or there are good indications (some clues) that it is the correct placement for them. I would rather attach these lines and continue to build on them at the same time trying to prove/disprove the proper connection. In my database, I usually maintain notes to reflect these occasions and why, if they do not show up here in the GEDCOMS and if any one is interested as to why they are attached where they are, E-Mail me to check out my notes, sources or reasons for being there.

I use "ABT" quite frequently in these files on DOB, DOD, Marriage dates etc. , this is generally an estimated date based upon ages that people married, estimated DOB after parents were married or estimated based on parents ages. It is almost a necessity to do this so that you have a date range for searching purposes.

If you have built up your family line but can not attach it for certain to Samuel Denny, send me a GEDCOM report on this family, I will strip living persons and post it here in hopes that someone will see it and make a connection

The families in the GEDCOMS are arranged on "FAMILY GROUP SHEETS" which most people are familiar with. The group sheets will show known data on the primary subject you selected, their spouse if any, their children, parents of primary subject and spouse and additional spouse if any. Once in a family group sheet, you can maneuver to other sheets for listed persons by clicking on them.

When you select a GEDCOM below that you want to look at, you will be taken to the individual's GEDCOM page and there you will see all the surnames or links to surnames under his family. Just select a surname and you are on your way.

If I post GEDCOMS furnished by others, I will not be responsible for complaints about same. If there are complaints that can not be resolved, they will be removed .

"AFT" is used most generally to estimate a time period when an event such as a birth, death, etc happened based upon knowledge that it in fact was after that date.

"BEF" is used most generally to estimate a date when an event such as death, birth, etc happened based upon knowledge that it in fact was before that date.

This GEDCOM for Joseph Denney was prepared by Larry Denney with data input from Linda Brandt of Ovid, Colorado and Shirley Johnson of Pomeroy, Washington. This Joseph is also contained within the William Denny GEDCOM above. Conact Larry at [email protected]

Samuel Denny had as many as 17 children, 13 of which we have being identified as Azariah, William, John, Charles, Henry, Lazarus, Benjamin, James, Sherad, Keziah, Nancy, Elizabeth, and Margaret. It is believed that he had more unidentified daughters and also that he probably had sons that died in the revolutionary war. Only Azariah, Charles, John, Elizabeth, James, Keziah, and William are known to have left descendants.

Finding the parentage for this William Denney has dead ended for me. He was born in Gallia County, Ohio in 1825 and married Isabella Russell. They appeared in the 1860 & 1870 Gallia County, Ohio census reports and then moved to Mason County, WV. I NEED HELP WITH THIS ONE! Can anyone help me tie this William to the other Gallia County, Ohio Denneys.

JOSHUA DENNEY: I have added Joshua here as a separate entry, he is also included in Azariah Denny line. This line has some controversy, some think the line I present is not the correct Joshua. I present the line here for exposure to the world and possible further discussion/discovery and continuing building upon

LAZARUS DENNY: Son of Samuel Denny, I did not previously have a family for him. This line is presented here based upon data from the book "WILLIAM M. DENNY OF TITUS COUNTY, TEXAS" by Arthur Denny

Persons are assumed to be living if born after 1911 & I have no specific information that they are deceased. In these records, death date will be blank. In records located at ROOTSWEB, LIVING will be placed in death date. PLEASE HELP! If you know people are deceased, notify me!
