     William Hartley was born on 10 March 1840 Wright County, Missouri.1 He was the son of Andrew J. Hartley and Ann Newsom.
     William Hartley appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of 102 District, Wright, Missouri in the household of his parents, Andrew J. Hartley and Ann Hartley.2
     William Hartley appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Washington Township, Taney, Missouri in the household of his parents, Andrew J. Hartley and Delia Hartley.3
     William Hartley appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of in Washington Township, Douglas County, Missouri, in the household of his parents, Andrew J. Hartley and Delia Hartley.4 William Hartley and Ruben Hartley witnessed the application of the pension of Randolph Allen by Elizabeth Allen, their sister, on 24 January 1891 in Douglas County, Missouri; Elizabeth's brothers.5
     William Hartley died on 15 April 1921 in in Arno, Douglas, Missouri, at the age of 81.1
