Mary Ann Hawley was born on 14 June 1808 in Shaftsbury, Bennington, Vermont.2,3,1,4 She was the daughter of William Hawley and Philura (Unknown).1 Mary Ann Hawley attended the Methodist Church.5
On 21 January 1827, Mary Ann Hawley married Daniel Conrad, son of Johannes "John" Conrad and Catherine Foote, in Hinsdale, Cattaraugus County, New York.2,6,7 She worked sunup to sundown spinning for her family and others. She earned fifty cents a week and saved enough to buy her mother a set of blue and white dishes. Some of the set has been passed down through the generations.8
