William married Philura (Unknown) circa 1806 in Vermont, the location is based on the birthplace of son Benjamin.3 William Hawley, Daniel Conrad, Johannes "John" Conrad, Joseph Conrad, Jacob Linderman and Elisha Terry were considered pioneers in Ischua, Cattaraugus, New York. William came from Cortland County, New York; the area was still known as Hillsdale.5
In 1827, William Hawley and Daniel Conrad were found on the list of Jurors in Hinsdale, Cattaraugus, New York. Also included on the list were John Conrad, Johan Peter Frantz and Jacob Linderman.6
In October 1828, William Hawley wasfound on the General Session list of Jurors in Cattaraugus County, New York.7
William Hawley was listed as the head of a family on the 1830 U.S. Federal Census enumerated in Hinsdale, Cattaraugus, New York.
