     Charles Sumner Rich was born on 23 May 1870, Wisconsin.1,2 He was the son of Elijah Rich and Mary Elizabeth Freer.1
     Charles Sumner Rich appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of in Kilbourn City, Columbia, Wisconsin, in the household of his parents, Elijah Rich and Mary Elizabeth Rich.1
     On 1873, Mary, George, Jane, Katie, Nellie, Louise and Charles migrated to Sauk County, Wisconsin, with his parents Elijah Rich and Mary Elizabeth Rich. The family arrived sometime in the Spring.3
     Charles Sumner Rich appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Freedom, Sauk, Wisconsin in the household of his parents, Elijah Rich and Mary Elizabeth Rich.4 Based on the City directory of 1890, Charles Sumner Rich was living in the household of Elijah at Nehalem Avenue, Albina, Multnomah, Oregon.5 Charles was Carpenter in 1890 in Albina, Multnomah, Oregon. Portland Oregon 1890 - 91.6
     Charles Sumner Rich appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Portland, Multnomah, Oregon in the household of his parents, Elijah Rich and Mary Elizabeth Rich.7
     Charles Sumner Rich died on 20 June 1938 in Columbia County, Oregon, at the age of 68.8
     Charles was buried after 20 June 1938 in the North Cemetery of Clear Creek, located in Vernonia, Columbia County, Oregon .8

     Elijah Rich was born on 21 October 1830 in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts.2,3,4,6 He was the son of Thomas Rich and Prudence Kinny.2,3,4,5
     In 1848, Elijah migrated to Rock County, Wisconsin.6
     In 1849, Elijah left Rock County and migrated to Adams County, Wisconsin.6
     On 5 May 1853, Elijah Rich married Mary Elizabeth Freer, daughter of Jacob Freer and Jane Freer, at Delton, Sauk County, Wisconsin, by C. L. Fisher, at the residence of her parents Jacob and Jane Freer. The marriage record dated 05 May 1853, reports that Elijah's occupation was a farmer residing in Dell Praire Wisconsin.5,1
     Elijah Rich and Mary Elizabeth Rich appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Friendship, Adams, Wisconsin, enumerated 11 June 1860, reporting Elijah as a County Sheriff. Their children Mary Elizabeth, George Freer and Jane Jennie Prudence were listed as living with them.7
     Elijah Rich enlisted in the Military, as a private in Company K, 42 nd Infantry Regiment Wisconsin., on 20 August 1864 in Dell Prairie, Adams, Wisconsin.8 He served in the military as a private until being promoted to Full Lieutenant 1st Class on 12 September 1864.8 Heresigned on on 15 May 1865.8
     Elijah Rich and Mary Elizabeth Rich appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Kilbourn City, Columbia, Wisconsin, enumerated 4 June 1870, reporting Elijah as a carpenter. Their children Mary Elizabeth, George Freer, Jane Jennie Prudence, Katie, Nellie Channeller, Louise Bell and Charles Sumner were listed as living with them.9
     In 1873, Elijah and Mary migrated to Sauk County, Wisconsin. Accompaning them were Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Rich, George Freer Rich, Jane Jennie Prudence Rich, Katie Rich, Nellie Channeller Rich, Louise Bell Rich and Charles Sumner Rich. The family arrived sometime in the Spring.6 Elijah and Mary were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Sauk County, Wisconsin.6 Elijah's political affliation was that of a Republican in Sauk County, Wisconsin.6 In 1878, Elijah was elected to fill a vacancy for the Justice of the Peace in Sauk County, Wisconsin, and relected in 1879.6
     Elijah Rich and Mary Elizabeth Rich appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Freedom, Sauk, Wisconsin, enumerated 14 June 1880 Their children George Freer, Louise Bell and Charles Sumner were listed as living with them, as well as Mary's father, Jacob Freer.10
     Elijah appeared on the Veterans Census of 1890 in Mount Tabor, Multnomah, Oregon. Elijah is reported as having served as a 2nd Lieutenant in Wisconsin Infantry Company K as a reenlisted Veteran who was suffering from Piles.11 Based on the City directory of 1890 Albina, Elijah Rich was living at [LD1], Albina, Multnomah County, Oregon. Also living in the household: Charles Sumner Rich.12
     Elijah Rich and Mary Elizabeth Rich appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Portland, Multnomah, Oregon, at Fourth Street, enumerated 3 June 1900, reporting Elijah as a carpenter builder who owned his home free and clear. Their children George Freer and Charles Sumner were listed as living with them.13
     On 16 July 1905, Elijah Rich was living at 1610 East 9th Street, in Portland, Multnomah, Oregon, when he died at the age of 74, leaving Mary as his surviving spouse.3,1,14

     Elijah was buried on Monday, 17 July 1905 in the Milwaukie Pioneer Cemetery, located in Lake Oswego, Clackamas County, Oregon .15
