     Hector Ralph Beard was born on 24 January 1902 in Ferndale, Glamorgan Wales.1,2 He was the son of Herbert Charles Beard and Hester Fry.
     Ralph Beard immigrated to Malad City, Oneida, Idaho, with his parents, Herbert and Hester Beard, aboard the ship Ivernia arriving on 5 August 1902, The family arrived in Boston Massachusetts from Liverpool England..3,4 Ralph Beard was naturalized on 29 June 1908 in Malad City, Oneida, Idaho, and Hester Beard.3
     Ralph Beard appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Malad City, Oneida, Idaho in the household of his parents, Herbert Charles Beard and Hester Beard.5
     Ralph Beard appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Malad City, Oneida, Idaho in the household of his parents, Herbert Charles Beard and Hester Beard.6 Ralph Beard was mentioned in the obituary of Hester Beard on 9 March 1922 which printed in the Oregon Statesman, circulated in Salem, Marion County, Oregon.7

     Herbert Charles Beard was born on 4 April 1872 in Banwell, Somerset England, his parents were residing at Stonebridge.1,3,4,5 His mother Betsey died in childbirth or shortly there after so he was raised by his Aunt Mary. He was the son of (Unknown) Blanchard and Betsy Beard.1,2
     Herbert Charles Beard appeared on the 1881 English Census of Banwell, Somerset,England in the household of Betsy Beard, his grandmother.6
     On 21 July 1889, Herbert Charles Beard married Hester Fry, daughter of John Fry and Sophia Drake, at St Paul's Church in Llanwonno, Glamorgan County.2,3,7
     Residing in Llanwonno, Glamorganshire, Wales , on the 1891 Census, Herbert Charles Beard was listed as the head of the family and Hester, his wife. Also living in the household, was his daughter, Eleanor.4 According to the census, Herbert's occupation was a Coal Miner.4

     Herbert was buried on Sunday, 4 January 1942 in the Salem Pioneer Cemetery, located in Salem, Marion County, Oregon . In the Beard plot Herbert Senior is next to: Hester(his wife), Melvin (his grandson), Herbert Jr. (his son) and Elvera (his daughter-in-law).5

     Herbert Charles Beard Jr. immigrated to Malad City, Oneida, Idaho, with his parents, Herbert and Hester Beard, aboard the ship Ivernia arriving on 5 August 1902, The family arrived in Boston Massachusetts from Liverpool England..6,7 Herbert, Eleanor, William, Florence and Ralph were naturalized on 29 June 1908 in Malad City, Oneida, Idaho, and Hester Beard.6
     Herbert Charles Beard Jr. appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Malad City, Oneida, Idaho in the household of his parents, Herbert Charles Beard and Hester Beard.1

On 5 April 1917, Herbert Charles Beard Jr. was listed on the 1917 - 1918 draft list residing in Malad City, Oneida, Idaho.8,9
Herbert at the age of 20, was discharged from his military service on 16 September 1919 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, Bert, Service Number 1110122, was discharged from the U.S.S. Orion as a Seaman.10 He, at 21, was described in his military record as: Blond Hair, Blue Eyes, 5 ft. 10 in., 170 lbs. and was living in Malad City, Oneida, Idaho, at the time.10
     Herbert Charles Beard Jr. appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Malad City, Oneida, Idaho in the household of his parents, Herbert Charles Beard and Hester Beard.11 Herbert Charles Beard Jr. was mentioned in the obituary of Hester Beard on 9 March 1922 which printed in the Oregon Statesman, circulated in Salem, Marion County, Oregon.12
     On 31 July 1923, Herbert Charles Beard Jr. married Elvera Dugger, daughter of Willis Monroe Dugger and Elizabeth Hattie "Lizzie" Murphy, in Salem, Marion County, Oregon, They were married by W. M. Bushey, County Judge..13,4,14
     Herbert Charles Beard Jr. and Elvera Beard appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Mt Hope, Logan, Colorado, enumerated 9 April 1930, reporting that the family was renting their home and they owned a radio. Their son Mel was listed as living with them.15 Based on the Birth certificate of their son, Bob Beard on 10 April 1931, Herbert Charles Beard Jr. and Elvera Beard were living at 311 N. 7th Avenue in Sterling, Logan, Colorado.16
     Herbert Charles Beard Jr. died on 3 March 1936 in in Denver, Denver, Colorado, at the age of 37. Family lore states that Bert died of complications of Mustard Gas received in France during WWI.

Military record does not state anything about Bert being in France. However, there is a large amount of information that is black out on his military records.

Updated: (29 Jul 2015) Received updated file where there is not redacted information. States that Herbert was in La Rochelle France 10 August to 14 September 1918 as a Military Police duty (member of the Armed Guard on board the SS JoNancy) .4
     Herbert was buried on Thursday, 5 March 1936 in the Salem Pioneer Cemetery, located in Salem, Marion County, Oregon .17,4
     Herbert Charles Beard Jr.'s obituary was printed in the Statesman Journal, circulated in Salem, Marion County, Oregon, on 6 March 1936. Leaving his wife, Elvera as his widow He was survived by Mel Beard, Bob Beard and William Victor "Bill" Beard.17
Herbert's obituary states:

BEARD--At Boulder, Colo., March 3, Herbert Charles Beard, Jr., 37. Survived by his widow, Mrs. Alvera Beard; three sons, Melvin, Robert and Billy, all of Boulder; parents Mr. And Mrs. H. C. Beard of Independence; brothers, William J. and Ralph of Salem, Victor L. Beard of Washougal, Wash; sisters, Mrs. S. F. Illum, Malad City, Idaho, and Mrs. D. W. Thorp, Logan, Utah. Funeral services from the chapel of Clough-Barrick company, Saturday, March 7, at 3:30 p,m. Interment in IOOF cemetery.17
