On 1 March 1838, George Washington Bond married Elizabeth Stilwell, daughter of William Stilwell and Martha Ellan Hays, in Edgar County, Illinois. George and Elizabeth were Cousins based on the U. S. Special Census for Deaf Family Marriages (dated 8 May 1890) statement made by Sarah A. Bond, their daughter.9,10,8
George Washington Bond was listed as the head of a family on the 1840 U.S. Federal Census enumerated in Jefferson County, Iowa. Based on ages, it is possible the following were also living in the household, Elizabeth Bond, a white female, age fifteen to nineteen years old, also enumerated in the household is an unknown 20 to 29 year old male.11
George Washington Bond and Elizabeth Bond appeared on the 1850 Federal Census Marion County, Iowa, enumerated 16 September 1850, reporting George as a Missionary Baptist Preacher. Their children Sarah A., Willliam Harrison, Benjamin Franklin, Amanda J. and James Madison were listed as living with them.12
