Rev James Bond was born on 14 February 1821 Henry County, Kentucky.1,2 He was the son of John Bond and Sarah Chastain.
Rev James Bond, was probably included as a white male, age fifteen to nineteen years old, in John Bond's household on the 1840 Census enumerated in Van Buren County, Iowa.3
On 17 October 1842, Rev James Bond married Laura Jewett in Jefferson County County, Iowa.4 Rev James Bond was on of Oregon Pioneers of 1847. Soon after arriving in Oregon he began to preach in a little Baptist church in Skipanon, Clatsop Co. He organized Sunday schools there and in Astoria; On Feb 18, 1849 he was accidentally shot and killed; was known to have one daughter; others of his family arrived in 1853. in 1847.1
Rev James Bond died on 18 February 1849 in Clatsop County, Oregon, at the age of 28.1

John Bond was listed as the head of a family on the 1840 U.S. Federal Census enumerated in Van Buren County, Iowa. Based on ages, it is possible the following were also living in the household, Solomon Bond and Rev James Bond, white males, age fifteen to nineteen years old, Susan Ione Bond, a white female, age five to nine years old, Ann Bond and Elizabeth Bond, white females, age ten to fourteen years old, Rebecca Bond, a white female, age fifteen to nineteen years old, Sarah Bond, a white female, age forty to forty-nine years old.6
