Bond was born on 29 August 1845 in Fairfield, Jefferson, Iowa.3,4,5,1 She was the daughter of George Washington Bond and Elizabeth Stilwell.1,2 Sarah was born deaf as well as two of her siblings, Frank and Joseph. Sarah stated that her parents were Cousins on the U. S. Special Census on Deaf Family Marriages.2

Sarah A. Bond appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Spencer Precinct, Lane, Oregon in the household of her parents, George Washington Bond and Elizabeth Bond.4 In 1870 Sarah A. Bond, at the age of 24, attended for 4 years the [LD1] in Salem, Marion County, Oregon.2
