Alanson Wilbur was born on 29 July 1796 in Stephentown, Rensselaer, New York, Date calculated from Tombstone data (d. 21 Nov 1859 age 63 Ys, 3Ms, 23 Ds.)2,3,4 He was the son of Thomas Willbur and Abigail Salmon.1

Alanson Wilbur served in the military in a company commanded by Captain Miller. This company was in the regiment commanded by Col. Young. Alanson marched from Troy to Plattsburg for about four weeks until he was taken ill. At that time Alanson was ordered to return home until he had recovered. in October 1813 in Sand Lake, Rensselaer, New York.7,8,1 He continued his military service on August 1814 in Nassau, Rensselaer, New York.7,8,1
Alanson Wilbur ended his military service in October 1814 in Whitehall, Washington, New York. Where he served for 18 days as a private in Major B. Yales Battalion New York Militia in Capt. Lemuel Sherwood's Company. He was honorably discharged 72 miles from his residence.9,8
Alanson Wilbur married Sally Moore in Rensselaer County, New York.1,10,3 Alanson was a tenant, at the age of 24, of the Dutch patron, Stephen Van Rensselaer, proprietor of the enormous Rensselaerwich Manor in Rensselaer County NY. The record of these tenancies which are preserved in the NY state library in Albany, show a lease made August 11, 1790 to Luther Gates for 215 acres in Nassau township (old Phillipstown) for 60 years, the annual rental being 12 and 9/10 bushels of wheat delivered to the landlord. This land was identified on the ancient tract map as being Phillipstown, west of Stephentown and south of Sand Lake, near Dunham Hollow. The tenant ledgers record that Alanson had purchased the interest in the lease of one "Newton"; In 1820 the leasehold ownership was divided between John Tift, John Holden, George Simms and Alanson Wilbur. (records show Alanson as Lanson.)1
Alanson Wilbur, 33 years old, was listed as the head of a family on the 1830 U.S. Federal Census enumerated in Sand Lake, Rensselaer, NY. Based on ages, it is possible the following were also living in the household, Jefferson Wilbur, a white male, age newborn to 4 years old, Harrison M. Wilbur, a white male, age ten to fourteen years old, Harriet M. Wilbur, a white female, age five to nine years old, Laura Wilbur, a white female, age fifteen to nineteen years old, Sally Wilbur, a white female, age thirty to thirty-nine years old.11
Alanson Wilbur and Sally Wilbur appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of in Lyons, Wayne County, New York, enumerated 11 November 1850, reporting Alanson as a farmer with Real Estate valued at $700. Their son Jefferson was listed as living with them, as well as Jefferson's wife, Ann and their daughter, Elmira. Also in the household is Lafayette Wilbur b. NY age 15 (so far I have not been able to place who this is.)4 Alanson Wilbur was living on 19 December 1855 in Belvidere, Boone, Illinois.8
Alanson Wilbur left a will filed on 21 November 1859 Belvidere, Boone, Illinois. Harrison M. Wilbur, Laura Reynolds, Harriet M. Burch, Jefferson Wilbur, Sally Wilbur and Stephen Van Rensselaer Wilbur were mentioned in the will.12
On 21 November 1859, Alanson Wilbur was living in Bonus Prairie, Boone, Illinois, when he died from cancer of the stomach., at the age of 63, leaving Sally as his surviving spouse.10,1 Alanson Wilbur left a will on 21 November 1859, the will states:
Alanson was buried on Thursday, 24 November 1859 Andrus Cemetery, Bonus Township, Boone, Illinois. Grave is located in Row 1 grave 3, next to his wife Sally, son Harrison and daughter-in-law Mary Fleming.3
Alanson Wilbur, 63, appeared on the US Federal Mortality Schedule of 1860 in Bonus, Boone County, Illinois. Alanson was a farmer who died in November of a Liver complaint.13 Alanson's will was proved on 21 July 1860 in Belvidere, Boone, Illinois.12
Alanson Wilbur was probably included as a white male, age under 10, in Thomas Willbur's household on the 1800 Census enumerated in Stephentown, Rensselaer, New York.5
Alanson Wilbur, was probably included as a white male, age ten to sixteen years old, in Thomas Willbur's household on the 1810 Census enumerated in Stephentown, Rensselaer, NY; Asael is missing from the household he should be listed in the 16 thru 25 years column.6,1
Alanson Wilbur served in the military in a company commanded by Captain Miller. This company was in the regiment commanded by Col. Young. Alanson marched from Troy to Plattsburg for about four weeks until he was taken ill. At that time Alanson was ordered to return home until he had recovered. in October 1813 in Sand Lake, Rensselaer, New York.7,8,1 He continued his military service on August 1814 in Nassau, Rensselaer, New York.7,8,1
Alanson Wilbur ended his military service in October 1814 in Whitehall, Washington, New York. Where he served for 18 days as a private in Major B. Yales Battalion New York Militia in Capt. Lemuel Sherwood's Company. He was honorably discharged 72 miles from his residence.9,8
Alanson Wilbur married Sally Moore in Rensselaer County, New York.1,10,3 Alanson was a tenant, at the age of 24, of the Dutch patron, Stephen Van Rensselaer, proprietor of the enormous Rensselaerwich Manor in Rensselaer County NY. The record of these tenancies which are preserved in the NY state library in Albany, show a lease made August 11, 1790 to Luther Gates for 215 acres in Nassau township (old Phillipstown) for 60 years, the annual rental being 12 and 9/10 bushels of wheat delivered to the landlord. This land was identified on the ancient tract map as being Phillipstown, west of Stephentown and south of Sand Lake, near Dunham Hollow. The tenant ledgers record that Alanson had purchased the interest in the lease of one "Newton"; In 1820 the leasehold ownership was divided between John Tift, John Holden, George Simms and Alanson Wilbur. (records show Alanson as Lanson.)1
Alanson Wilbur, 33 years old, was listed as the head of a family on the 1830 U.S. Federal Census enumerated in Sand Lake, Rensselaer, NY. Based on ages, it is possible the following were also living in the household, Jefferson Wilbur, a white male, age newborn to 4 years old, Harrison M. Wilbur, a white male, age ten to fourteen years old, Harriet M. Wilbur, a white female, age five to nine years old, Laura Wilbur, a white female, age fifteen to nineteen years old, Sally Wilbur, a white female, age thirty to thirty-nine years old.11
Alanson Wilbur and Sally Wilbur appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of in Lyons, Wayne County, New York, enumerated 11 November 1850, reporting Alanson as a farmer with Real Estate valued at $700. Their son Jefferson was listed as living with them, as well as Jefferson's wife, Ann and their daughter, Elmira. Also in the household is Lafayette Wilbur b. NY age 15 (so far I have not been able to place who this is.)4 Alanson Wilbur was living on 19 December 1855 in Belvidere, Boone, Illinois.8
Alanson Wilbur left a will filed on 21 November 1859 Belvidere, Boone, Illinois. Harrison M. Wilbur, Laura Reynolds, Harriet M. Burch, Jefferson Wilbur, Sally Wilbur and Stephen Van Rensselaer Wilbur were mentioned in the will.12
