William was born at Rowan County, North Carolina, on 22 September 1811. He was the son of Charles Galloway Sr. and Elizabeth Clifford. He married Martha Brush on 22 September 1833 at Calloway County, Kentucky, at age 22 and she 21. He married Mary Dillingham on 21 March 1850 at Caldwell County, Kentucky, at age 38 and she 24. William was listed as the head of a family on the 1850 Census at Calloway County, Kentucky.1 William's occupation: Postmaster at West Mountain, Upshur County, Texas, on 4 March 1859. William Galloway was the postmaster for West Mountain when the post office there was established in 1859. He was also the postmaster for the same post office for the CSA. The post office in West Mountain was discontinued on 24 April 1867 and not re-established until 1888. Since no other postmaster is listed during the Civil War, William may have continued in that duty for that period.. He was listed as the head of a family on the 1860 Census at Gilmer, Upshur County, Texas. William was enumerated under the Gilmer Post Office even though he was postmaster for the town of West Mountain. West Mountain must have been small and close to Gilmer..2 William died on 17 July 1901 at Bastrop County, Texas, at age 89. His body was interred at Jeddo, Bastrop County, Texas, at Jeddo Cemetery.
