The centre of the village is dominated by the church which is itself surrounded by a fairly open green. The church, although traditional in style, struck me as looking as if it had been built (or heavily modernised) in the 1800s. If it is modern then it is clearly a replacement as the church registers are available back to 1538 and are available on its excellent web site:

Next to the church is a large "manor house" type building dating to the mid 1600s and a little further along the road a very attractive school.

I am searching for Mary Harris who when she married John Brooks in Towcester in 1717 gave her parish as Abthorpe but she does not seem to have been christened there. If you come across her please let me know:
