Where names seem to be phonetic equivalents eg Ann/Anne/An I have grouped together. Otherwise I have left as originally recorded. The popular names stayed so for hundreds of years and where there are repeats of unusual names it is frequently within the same family as a family Christian name. The name Avery for example has been passed down the Dunning line from 1667 to 1886 and I have no other ancestors using it apart from this family. From the late 1800s there has been almost a complete breakdown of the use of family names.
With some of the "unique" names I am not sure whether it is the parent's choice, the parish clerks interpretation or my reading of the registers.
