Sunday, Aug 20, 2000, Mary El - We are having so much fun with Cole. Yesterday he pulled Duncan's lunch cooler out and was walking around with it (BIG grin on his face), then HE PUT IT BACK UNDER THE COUNTER WHERE HE HAD FOUND IT. I swear the kid's a genius.

His favorite word is uh-vuh. I don't know what it means, but he says it all the time.

Tuesday, June 20, 2000, Mary El - In case you haven't noticed, a whole year has gone by and our sweet tiny baby is now crawling and climbing all over the place. We had a low?key birthday party at home with Cole, Daddy and Mommy. Cole opened his presents and had fun playing with his new toys, then had his very own personal cupcake which I had purchased at Publix earlier in the day. We lit a candle and sang "Happy Birthday", then Cole got to eat the cupcake, which was about 50% cake and 50% frosting. It was a carrot cake, so there may have been some nutrition in there somewhere. We ran out of film just as it was getting good, sorry to say.

Cole has a vocabulary of 3 words (that we can understand); mama, dada, and bye?bye. I think he said peek a boo the other day. He got a little Elmo music box that says peek a boo and then plays a tune. It's pretty annoying, but Cole LOVES it. The boy can spread toys around a room in seconds. He gets into and out of the laundry basket by himself, climbs into chairs, and crawls at warp speed. He loves to open and close doors, or hide under a towel or behind the curtains (all variations of peek a boo). He can walk behind the scooter/push cart, and climbs onto the seat, sits there and looks proud. Frequently he gets on backwards. He can also scoot on it a little bit, but backwards. He hasn't figured out how to turn it around, so when he hits a wall or furniture he gets frustrated and cries. I give him about a week to figure it out.

He's pretty much eating anything we eat. He can lick all the jelly off a piece of toast, grab a cookie and take off, also eats sandwiches, scrambled eggs, watermelon, refried beans, spaghetti, cheese cubes, cucumbers, well, just about anything. He loves black olives, also loves pizza. Just last week figured out the sippy cup. Still gets nursey milk, likes it best first thing in the morning or waking up from a nap.

It's really amazing to watch him every day, just checking things out and keeping himself busy. Duncan and I are still in awe, still bowled over by how precious he is.
