I am searching for information on my grandfather, James Monroe Clay. He was born in Georgia 1885-1888. He was listed on the 1920 Fulton County Georgia census with my grandmother, my father and his two sisters. I don't know anything about him, his parents or siblings. He left when my father was very young. I keep hoping to find someone who knows something about Clays that came to Georgia that might lead to his ancestors and him.

Do you maybe have a little info that may aid my search?

A large portion of WINGROVE ancestry had its roots in WV. At one time Wingrove existed near Mt Hope, WV likely connected with the Wingrove mine in that area. I have found some cemetery sites with these ancestors that actually represent two different lines - one from England the other Ireland.

Looking for any present day Wingrove families to help in developing a better history of the Wingroves in this state.

I found a note in family records that the Cooks who settled in Oceana, WV are my ancestors. My grandfather, Rollie R. Cook was born ca.1883 in Jasonville, Indiana. There is a tradition that his father or grandfather came from Ohio and was a Civil War veteran and that this person was of the family found in Oceana. Does anyone know of a branch of the WV family that moved to Ohio before the Civil War?

My name is Candace Elena Cook. I was born and raised in Mullens, West Virginia. John Cooke was my 5th or 6th great grandfather. My grandfather was Raymond Cook of Basin, West Virginia. He died in 1995 on February 15. He lived his entire life in Wyoming county and was a retired coal miner. His father was Neal Cook, and mother was Augusta Cook (who was from Baileysville). If I remember correct, I believe Neal Cook's father was Joesph Cook. I was just doing research for a class assignment when I came upon this page. I have read the book on the genealogy of the John Cooke family in Wyoming County. The book provided me with lots of information on where my family came from. I love to tell the story of how John Cook came over from England. This web site is excellent, it made me very proud to be a Cook from Wyoming county! Thanks for creating it. I especially loved the poem. Feel free to email me if you wish.
Sincerely,
Candace Cook

I stumbled on your site in search of a connection between my grandfather George who was an illegitimate Stewart, his parents were Henry Stewart and Elizabeth Cooke Coon b. 1853. George Stewart was a lawman in WV around 1900, he married Martha Cook b. Nov 11, 1888, daughter of Ulysses Cook. They lived in the area known as Naoma WV. Many of the Cook family are buried in a graveyard there. Elizabeth Cooke Coon married Adam Coon. I was given these names by a cousin of my grandmothers 12 years ago. Lately I have had help from many other researchers leading me in the right direction. Elizabeth Cook may have been the daughter of Floyd Cooke son of William and Catherine Stewart. Henry Stewart is still a mystrey and I would appreciate any thing you might know regarding my Grandfather's father's family.
Through Elizabeth Cooke I believe I am connected to this family, and your web site has answered many questions I have concerning her ancestors and their arrival here.
Thank you for hard work in researching the family and sharing it with all of us who are still searching.

I have found that there is rumors that the Stuart line and my Thompson line is connected to the Royal Stuarts of England & Scotland. King James of England was the son of Queen Mary of Scots. And the King James Bible version is named for him. A lot of Scots left Scotland with King James, so this is why you find the surnames changed.

I and my sister Frances have completed most of our research. I descend from John Cooke through two of his sons. First Thomas who married Elenore Riggin to David Judson Cook who married Sarah Bailey to Mary Cook who Married Winfield Scott Cook to Hattie Louvinia Coo(my grandmother) who married James Crawfor to Lorain Crawford who married Woodrow Chamblee to me and my sister plus seven more. The rest and the documentation I8ll get together and send. One thing Ralph Stewart was orphaned when his parents had a carriage accident. He and John Cooke were young friend and on a hunting trip killed some indians and it was against the law. They "hid out" for two years and joined the lead up to the revolution. For this reason my sister and I believe that John Cook was not first gerneration however this is offered with no proof. We need to do some sharing we have a lot of information as do you. Your web site is wonderful and I enjoyed it a lot.

My great grandmother was Susan William Jeff Davis Thompson. She had a sister and a brother. Her nephew was Arch W Thompson and his father was Joseph. All 3 ended up in South Georgia but we understand that they came from Wheeling, W. Va. I have no other information. This was a special quest for my cousin who passed away in July we could never quite get a handle on her and where they came from.

I was wondering if you could help with something. I am certain you are aware of the frustration some of us are going through trying to find the death date of Annie French Carter b. abt 1794 (sorry I don't have my notes with me). She went into Indian Territory after her husband died in 1854 with her son French. There are a lot of Carters in southern Missouri and Arkansas I was wondering if possibly they went to join other relatives as land opened up. I have searched on a lot of Carters but thought possibly they joined the French side. Do you show any records of any of the French descendants going into Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas or Oklahoma during her lifetime that she and French may have been tempted to go there? In the meantime, I have requested records on a relative that was a DAR member in the hopes her files show this death date. (Which I will provide to all I know about.) But the Patriot connection could be in a different direction. I, along with many others are trying to get this information to join DAR. Again, thank you for your wonderful site and so much insightful information on Annie's family. - Janis
