 Tax Lists

Unfortunately, the quality of the microfilm for the Tax Lists of Warren County, KY was not very good for the years prior to 1820.  Also, I have only researched through the year 1820 in Warren County, KY

There is also a message at genforum.com posted by Lyle Comstock ([email protected]) on March 13, 1999 that states he is looking for information on James Pollard, brother of Absalom Pollard of Culpepper Co., VA, who moved to Lincoln Co., KY, 1788, had six children, moved to Warren Co., KY in 1808, lived there until 1832, then moved to Spencer Co., IN.

James Pollard was b. 1762 in Culpepper, VA and died July 4, 1840 in Spencer, IN.  He married (1) Nancy Rutherford Nov. 9, 1788 in Lincoln Co., KY.  He married (2) Mary (Polly) Greer May 4, 1820 in Barren Co., KY.

NOTES REGARDING MARY POLLARD

(I believe this information to be correct, but have no actual knowledge that this Mary was actually the wife of Isaiah Greer, other than as noted below.)

FTM CD 519 (Early KY Settlers 1700s - 1800s) Abstracts of Early KY Wills and Inventories, Warren Co., Book A shows:

GREER, ISAAC (I believe the name was incorrectly shown as Isaac and should have been Isaiah)  February 15, 1812.  July 1812.  Wife: Mary, Children: Sary, Levi, Hannah, Lorry, Permely.  Executor:  Wife.  Witnesses:  Edward Chaston (Chastain), Thomas Crabtree, David Owen.  I do not yet have a copy of this Will to verify Isaac's name.

I have a copy of a sale of property of the heirs of Isaiah Greer to Joshua Hampton of 97 acres in Edmonson Co., KY in Deed Book C, Page 317 on April 12, 1834, which shows the heirs to be: (1) Levi Greer; (2) Hannah Chastain and her husband Edward G. Chastain; (3) Lowrey (or Lowry) Greer; (4) Milly Greer Jones and her husband Pleasant Jones; (5) Saliny (Selena) Greer Hendricks and her husband Duck Hendricks.  I also have a copy of the Marriage Bond for Edward Chastain & Hannah Greer, which shows Hannah's mother as "Polly" Pollard.

I have notes from various Greer researchers that indicate that Mary (Polly) Pollard was first married to Isaiah Greer, who was the son of Aquilla Greer and Hannah Riley.  After Isaiah's death, Mary married James Pollard in Barren County on May 4, 1820.

On Oct. 11, 1821, Hannah Greer, daughter of Isaiah & Mary Greer, marries Edward G. Chastain in Barren Co.  In the marriage Bond, Hannah is shown as the daughter of Polly Pollard, who gave consent  Witnesses were Absalom Pollard and James Matkin.

On Sept. 23, 1829, Selena Greer, daughter of Isaiah & Mary Greer, marries Duke R. Hendrick in Barren Co.  In the marriage Bond, Selena is shown as the daughter of Mary Pollard.

Mary (Polly) Greer was also the mother of Sarah Greer.  November 14, 1813, Sarah (Sally) Greer married Joshua Hampton in Barren County, KY.  The index show the brides names to be "Polly", however, it was actually Sarah.   Polly Greer is shown as the mother of bride also.  We think the clerk was confused and put the name Polly in both places, as bride and mother of the bride.  Later records are consistent in showing that Joshua Hampton's wife was named "Sarah/Sally".  Sarah & Joshua Hampton had a son named Isaiah, after Sarah's father.

Children of James Pollard and Nancy Rutherford:

(1) Elijah Pollard, b. Oct. 13, 1790, Lincoln Co., KY, d. IN.  He married Anney Wilkinson Jan. 10, 1811 in Barren Co., KY.  Their children were:  (1) James Pollard, b. 1812, KY, d. June 25, 1888, Ashland, Sauders, NE; and (2) Jobe Pollard, b. 1815, KY, d. IN;

(3) William Pollard, b. November 29, 1797, Lincoln Co., KY, d. KY.  We might want to look at this fellow as a candidate for husband of our Elizabeth Christian Pollard Denton.
