At the time of their marriage in 1832, Rebecca was noted as a “spinster”; Jonas a “bachelor”; and both were Tresco.

Jonas Nicholls was part owner, together with his brother-in-law, Thomas Deason, John Nicholls (see note) and others of the Prosperous: registered 1830, Tresco; 28 tons; wrecked 27 March 1836 and the New Prosperous: registered 1836, Tresco; 20 tons; lost February 1888, off Lundy Island. Note: John Nicholls is likely to be the John Nicholls recorded in the 1841 Census as living next door to Jonas Nicholls, Tresco.
