Location: Coordinates: CR 500S, 343E, 1/2 mile east of U.S. 35 "Platted in 1901 and originally called Phillips, for the founder Clarissa Phillips. The present name might be for the town in Maine. [S5, p 101] There was a telegraph office on the C&O RR line that passed through the town to the west. This office operated 24 hrs per day, 7 days a week relaying dispatchers' orders to the crews. This office was closed in the early 1950's. [S4, 7 Apr 1985] |
