Normal City Delaware County, Indiana |
| Township: Center |
| Location: Coordinates: North side of White River in Ball State University area. "Platted as a real estate promotion to help fund the normal school that was being built north ot Jarrett Street (now University Avenue) and west of McKinley Avenue, Normal City was a separate corporation for some two decades. Its boundaries were White River to the south, Dicks Street to the east (with a slim arm stretching toward Muncie along Main and Jackson Streets), Riverside Avenue to the north and Tillotson Avenue to the west. Normal City's development as a suburb was boosted by the construction of the West Side Streetcar line in the late 1890's. Hundreds of lots were sold, the money used to construct what is now the Administration Building of Ball State University. A 1915-16 Muncie city directory lists town officers....And Normal City had several industries along the line of the Lake Erie and Western Railroad in the south part of town. Normal City was annexed by Muncie more than 75 years ago... [S1, 31 Mar 1994] |
