Tombstone reads:

 Alma Vawter Hanby

 December 5, 1884

 January 4, 1936

Alma Vawter Hanby was the fifth child of Elizabeth Peck Hanby

and Peter Sharp Hanby. She was born in Rockwall County, Texas on

December 5, 1884.  Her sister, Nora, wrote the following description,

"Aunt Allie had an unusually quick mind and stood at the head of her

classes, but had no outstanding abilities unless it was amusing and

running after other folk's children.

She was about 5 feet tall and weighed about 100 pounds. "Alma Vawter

Hanby never married and died from a strange skin that defied medical

knowledge of that time.

Her niece,, Bonnie Ruth Hanby, described her as an exceptionally

kind, sweet and patient person. Everyone liked her very much.   All

of her nieces and nephews were especially fond of her. She began

training to be a nurse in St. Paul’s Hospital in Dallas, but the physical part included such hard work she had to give it up In those days nurses were the "cleaning crew", "errand person", "waitress", and were expected to do anything and everything that needed doing.

Alma Vawter Hanby died on January 4, 1936, in Rockwall County, Texas.
