Everette Hess Dies Suddenly
Everette "Nibs" Hess, 60, lifelong resident of Brook died suddenly at his home in Brook, last Sunday evening, death being caused by an embolism. Mr. Hess had been in his usual good health that day and that evening Mr. and Mrs. Hess had attended the Brook theatre. Shortly after returning home he became ill and passed away within a few minutes. Everette Downing Hess, son of Elmer E. and Ida (Foresman) Hess, was born in Brook. After graduating from Brook high school and the Purdue School of Pharmacy, he with his father operated a drug store here and also manufactured Hess Witch Hazel Cream. Following the death of his father, Everette and his brother Leland, devoted all their time to the manufacture of the Witch Hazel Cream and later added a complete cosmetic line. In 1913 he was united in marriage to Hazel Lawrence, who survives. He was a member of the Brook Methodist church and of the Knights of Pythias lodge and took an active part in the affairs of the community. Surviving besides the widow are a son, Lawrence Hess of Brook, two daughters, Mrs. Helen Powell, Brooklyn, Ind., and Mrs. Martha Patterson, Indianapolis, also a brother, Leland of Brook. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church on Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. Michel officiating and burial was made in Riverside cemetery.
