Chase County Historical Sketches
Samuel Park married Amanda Carner, of Litchfield, PA., June 25, 1857. Amanda was born in Litchfield, August 22, 1834. In 1868 Samuel and Amanda moved with their family to a farm near Elmdale, Kansas, where they lived for 31 years. In 1899 they moved to San Francisco, California. While living there Samuel Park died and Mrs. Park went to live with her daughter, Mrs. C.L. Jeffrey, of Cotati, California, where she endeared herself to all who knew her. She was a great sufferer for many years, but her patient endurance and amazing cheerfulness were a beautiful example to all in daily companionship with her. She died as she had lived thinking only of her many friends to whom she left a kind remembrance and her blessings. As she crossed the bar, her last faint breath was an assurance to the watchers that she saw the husband anad father who had gone before. He met her at the beautiful gate to walk with her into the unknown.
Samuel and Amanda Carner Park were the parents of two sons and five daughters. They were:
Estella, married to George Harlow. They moved to California and are now both dead. They left no children.
Martha, married Jack Beverlin. They were the parents of two daughters, May Beverlin Upton and Nettie Beverlin Haglund.
Alice, married Isaiah Rider, of Elmdale. To them two sons and five daughters were born. They were: Fred, Walter, Dottie, Myrtle, Birdie, Kittie and Cora Rider. The family lived near Elmdale.
Lyde, married Robert Holly. They moved to California.
Ruah, married C.L. (Clem) Jeffrey. They had no children and also moved to California (Cotati).
Joseph Park, married in California. His wife's name is not known to us.
A. Delbert Park was born April 13, 1861, near Athens, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. He died at his home in Florence, Kansas, February 8, 1927. When seven years of age he came to Kansas with his parents and settled on a farm near Elmdale. Dell, as he was familiarly called, was reared among many relatives, who loved him because "love begets love" of which his cup was brimming, and he shared lavishly with all. A. Delbert Park was united in marriage to Mary S. Watson, September 22, 1887. To this union four children were born - Roy, Grace, Leeta, and Harry.
