General:
From a letter from Wesley Ord Rankin to Ronna Dumas:
"My father, Robert Henry Gent Rankin was born on Nov. 12, 1874 in the small mining town of Catfish, Clarion Co., Penn - no longer in existance. It was a few miles north of East Brady, PA on the Allegheny River, Dad never talked about his father or mother but the mother must have died young as the three boys were all raised by different families. Dad was raised by a family named George London in a very small hamlet on the Allegheny River on the opposite side from Red Bank - a railroad junction about 10 miles south of East Brady. I remember seeing them only once or twice. The only connection I have with Dad's father is a letter written by him in 1890 from Gastonville PA (10 miles south of Pittsburgh) advising Dad he had a job for him weighing coal at the mine where Grandpa worked. In 1896 Dad married Lyda Belle Ganoe of Phillipston, PA. They had 4 children, Bessie, 1897, Carolyn 1899 and yours truly 1901. One other younger son, Robert Jr., 1903 died in infancy and is buried in the Cemetery at Phillipston PA. Mother was the daughter (1 of 12 children) of James Wesley Ganoe and Rebecca Ellen Simpson, who lived in Wattersonville, PA across the river from Red Bank PA. Bessie Hazel the oldest married George Washington Hutchison in Dec 1918. No children. Mr. Hutchison died in 1958. Bessie continued to live in St. Petersburg Florida from 1945 and ran a tourist home until 1988. She is still living 92 years young in a retirement home in St. Pete. In 1919 Carolyn Ruth married Fred L. Hufnagel and they had 3 children. Wesley Ord (named after me) Carolyn Hazel and Fred L. Jr. Fredd Jr. never married and is a bachelor, still lives in Caregie PA with his sister Carolyn. Carolyn Jr. married Teddy Mock who has been in a VA hospital for at least 10 years. They had five children." 3
