DeWitt Hospital News

We also learned of the untimely death of Harry Smith, DeWitt Hospital Attendant, of a heart attack in Oakland Friday. Smith had been in California state service almost continuously since 1927, having worked at Mendocino State Hospital before transferring here in July, 1948. From 1942 until 1945 he was in the hospital corps of the U. S. Navy. Bruce Eagan, also a DeWitt hospital attendant, having been one of his shipmates during World War II.

Kagan Loy Brown, Roy Soper, James Hill, William Brown Jr. and Mrs. Beulah Brown went to Ukiah Tuesday where funeral services for Smith took place at the Eversole Mortuary that afternoon. Burial was in the Ukiah cemetery, and the Ukiah post of the American Legion, of which Smith was a member, paid tribute to his memory, the bugler played taps and he was laid to rest.

Among Smith's survivors were his wife, Mrs. Lola Smith of Talmage, an attendant at Mendocino, and two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Baker, Columbia, Missouri, and Mrs. Ward Shryrock, Stevens Missouri. He was 48 years of age.

Legion Post Services For Harry L. Smith

Officers and members of Lewis White Post No. 76 of the American Legion will officiate at the interment services set for 3:30 Tuesday afternoon for Harry L. Smith, 48, who died in Oakland October 21. He had made his home in this community for 17 years, and is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lola Smith of Ukiah.

Relatives elsewhere include his father, John L. Smith of Columbia, Missouri, at which place he also has two sisters, Mrs. Ivy Shryock and Mrs. Nellie Baker. There are also two brothers in Missouri.

Mr. Smith was a hospital attendant and his work has called for residence in Talmage, Ukiah, Auburn, California and in the state of Missouri. During World war II he served as a chief pharmacist's mate in the U.S. Navy.

Pallbearers at the funeral include P.E. Cornell, Kelly Thrallkill, Walter McConihei, Pearl Bolton, Buzz Brown and E. L. Stillwell. 28 39
