According to "History of the Kendalls" Earl was "born an orphan" and came to California in 1909 looking for his older brother Charles who was living in Lemoore. I found him in the 1910 census living in Morton Kansas. He was listed as the step-son of George W. Morton. George was 60 years old and born in Indiana, his wife Martha was 51 born in Illinois. Earl's parents were stated as being born in Iowa. These were probably his adoptive parents instead of step-parents. ³ ⁷

"Bud and his first wife were divorced. He met his present wife, Sandy, (Sandra Hallisey), at a hot dog stand in 1965 and they were married in 1966 in Carson City, Nevada. Sandra was born 3 Mar 1923 in Seward, Maine, and worked at the Herald Examiner in L.A. but after they were married she settled down as a housewife and mother. Bud writes:

"We had a home at that time in LaMirado and in 1968 bought another one in Brea. I had figured to retire early and bought a ranch at Big Bear Lake in 1970. There we bred and raised Arabian horses. When mannagement at work found out my early retirement plans, they went goofy and gave me raises, promotions, etc. that changed our plans completely. We got fancy and bought Roy Rogers 1st ranchin Apple Valley. There we depleted the horse business, sold out and came to Coarse Gold to really enjoy retirement.

"I retired in 1979. Was a corporate executive with the Transamerica Corporation, senior vice-president of Transamerica Life Ins. and Anuity Co. Countywide Life Ins. Co., and Transamerican Life Ins. Co. Was also an office with Occidental Life Ins. Co 1938-1979.

"After retirement, I became Varsity Coach at Apple Valley High School where I taught for 3 years and retired again in 1983. Borth Sandy and I were certified snow-ski instructors with the Far West Ski Instructors Association, and i later became Board Chairman of our examining board. Sandy worked for the school park district at Big Bear Lake as an instructor during the snow season. I served on the L. A. Police Board for ten years selecting candidates for the Academy.

"I also was in the US Army and Air Force for 4 years 1942 -46 and retired a Captain in the retired reserves." ¹⁶
