    He married 1) Sarah E. Evans 7 Jan 1834 by E. Sanford in Monroe Co.,WV. (She b. 1815 to Alkana Evans) They had seven children. When she died, he md 2) Margaret Jane McClung (b. 7 Sep 1838, dau of John Monroe McClung. They had five children.

They resided at mt. Lookout, WV. They had nine children. He md 2) 1 Jan 1892 Rebecca Ann Margaret Evans (she b. 20 Feb 1867; d. 26 Feb 1914). (C.A.,16)
    Stories about Tom are related by Crosby McClung in They Hacked the Clearings (See McC J #6,12) Tom was a noted hunter. He built pens for wild cats and sold them alive. "Below Mt. Lookout in what is known as the James Woods is a long ridge that extends almost to Meadow River. This ridge is known as Hogskin Ridge and here is how it come to have that name. Uncle Tom McClung and his son, Caleb, were on this ridge hunting one day. At this time there were wild hogs in this area. The hogs were claimed by different parties, but it was only a claim as no proof of ownership could be given unless the hog was marked, which was rarely the case. Anyway, Uncle Tom had no claim on any of them. He while hunting this day, spied a fat, nice big shoat and the temptation was too great--he killed it, and proceeded to skin it. He had a sack with him. After he and his son had skinned and dressed the shoat, he happened to see Joseph Shaffer coming up the hill. He hurriedly began cramming the cut-up hog in the sack. Uncle Tom waited until Joseph was near, pretending not to see him and said to Caleb in a loud voice, 'Son, help me get this deer in the sack.' The boy probably failed to catch a sly wink from his father; anyway the boy replied, 'Deer? I thought you said it was a hog.' Joe had a hearty laught over it. Tom said, 'Now Joe, keep this away back'; but it finally leaked out and Hogskin Ridge it has been ever since."
    Matthew T. died 12 May 1890. They had nine children.

     When first married, he carried the U.S. mail to Mt. Cove (near Ansted). In 1925 the family moved to Winona and he worked in and around the coal mines for many years. At one time he was injured in the coal mines.
