Dec 1777. He is said to have been the first white child born on Meadow River,
Greenbrier County, WV.
He md 1) 1 May 1804 to Jane Cavendish (b. abt 1779, d. 4 Dec 1828) (Gr Mg,42). He md 2) Easter Amick. Franzy Creek was originally called Easter
Branch after this lady. She acted as the first midwife and as a sort of doctor in the
earliest days of Mt. Lookout.
He died abt 1855 and was the first person buried in the Mt. Pleasant
Cemetery near Mt. Lookout, WV. He had seven children:

Billy). In his absence his house burned and his wife and four children were frozen
to death before morning. In his grief he contemplated suicide. He retired to a
neighboring thicket to pray, and thus obtained perfect peace of mind and
resignation to his sore bereavement. This was in 1842.
He md 2) Margaret Likens 30 Dec 1845 in Fayette Co., WV (Fay Mg 1830-65, 12). They lived at Mulvane, WV and had nine children. William died 5 Oct

The seventh child of William and Abigail Dickinson McClung was b. 17
Mar 1782. He md Charity Vandal, 19 Sep 1805 (Gr Mg, 42). She was born 4 Oct 1784 to
Abraham and Mary Dillion Vandal, the second of eight children. Charles and Charity moved
to Warren County KY where he died in 1847. They were living on the Green River by 1816 when
Mary Vandal wrote to her sister telling of her family. In another letter to Hannah Craig in
1819, Mary advises the family that Charity McClung and family are doing well on the Barne of
Greenriver, Kentucky. See: Vandal Letters.
Charity Vandal's father, Abraham Vandal founded the town in Fayette County, Virginia, now West
Virginia called Vandalia. It is now known as Fayetteville.
Charles and Charity show up in the 1820 Census of Warren County, KY (P. 41A) and by 1830 are
in the Edmonson County Census (P. 222); and in 1840 Edmonson (P. 82). This was where some of
their children were married. Also see Kentucky censuses.
Note that half of Edmonson County was cut from Warren County in 1825 and Butler was the
adjoining county. These folks probably did not move but the counties were reorganized
around them.
Charity died 10 Dec 1860 at Edmonson County, KY. They had seven children. Wayne
Vandal Masterson was the researcher on this line. Sandra Humphries Raedel is currently
working on this family.

They resided in Butler Co., KY. One child. Thomas died 4 Mar 1890 in Butler County, KY. The
1860 census gives seven children and Thomas Burchfield living with them, age 73 b. NC.

McClung who married Soberna Shackleford 17 Dec 1834 in Edmonson County, KY. We need to hear
from descendants to confirm the middle name of this man. In 1850 this man is enumerated as
Leander in Butler County, KY (P. 243; need transcription). In 1860 he is age 45 born KY, and
a physician. He was living with the Marton London family from Virginia and was not married.
He died 10 Jan 1863 and was buried in Chaleybeate, Edmonson, KY ((Family Origins, Charles R. Hield)

The fourth child of Charles and Charity Vandal McClung was born 10 Feb 1816 in Warren County,
KY. He died 30 Oct 1873. In 1860 he was living in Edmonson County probably on the family
homestead as his mother, Charity, was with them. There is an Isaac Boyd family with them so his
wife, Agnes B, might have been a Boyd. The Family Origins site gives her birthday as 1 Apr 1819 and her
death as 10 May 1869. The children in the household may be McClung or Boyd children.
We need the help of descendants for a good record.
