4. LASLEY McCLUNG

Lasly was born abt 1789 in Tennessee. He grew up in eastern TN and when he was about 23 he joined Capt. John J. Winston's Cavalry and Mounted Gunmen in the War of 1812. Other McClungs in this unit were Francis, William, Alexander Montgomery, and David.

Lasly was taxed in Madison County in 1813. He moved to Crittendon Co., AR and was enumerated there in the 1830 census. He is listed as born in the 1780s. He had three sons with him. This man is often recorded as Leslie in the records. (Have seen the surname: Lessley in Alabama records and that may or may not be a clue. We have not yet found any McClung in Crittenden County for 1840 although Mississippi County was cut from Crittenden in 1833 and should be searched.

Note: There is an Alex McClung in Sevier County, AR in 1840 who was born 1800-10. In 1850 he is shown as Alexander M. McClung b. in KY.
