William was probably born in northern Alabama as we have a group of McClungs who had moved
into that area after the War of 1812. The middle initial of A could stand for Alexander or
Anderson, both names used in this family. We do not have specific information about this
man in early records but there was a W. A. McClung in 1839 in Autauga County, AL where he
was on a committee to write an obituary for a Mr. Barrows.
He was probably still in Alabama during the 1840 census living with his family. He moved to
Arkansas shortly after that where he was married to Matilda Melvina Black 10 Aug 1843 in Saline
county. Jefferson and Saline counties bordered each other and we find them enumerated in the
Jefferson County census in 1850. They were in Darysaw Township (p. 493). Matilda reports her
age as 23 which would give a birth year as 1829, also in Alabama.
From the records of Don Bowman we have: William A. McClung b c1828 AL d. 04/08/1918 Grant
Co, AR m. 08/10/1843 Melvina Matilda Black b. c1829 AL.

Texanna went to Erath County, Texas. She married Hill Johnson and had four boys in Mineral
Wells, TX. My gt grandfather, Albert Johnson ended up in Clarendon, TX, where I grew up.
Aunt Irene, the last living child of Albert's eight children, remembers seeing her grandmother,
Texanna only once.
Note: Also in Saline Co.,AR in 1860 is the Joseph and Jane McClung family from the Hugh,Jr.
line. They also went to Erath Co., TX.
