The Greenbrier McClung Families

THE GREENBRIER McCLUNG PROJECT

The McClung Family Association was formed to improve the record we already had. The McClung Genealogy by Rev. William McClung published in 1904 has been our foundation. It is a wonderful collection of McClung data. However, it was not documented and it also needs to be brought up to a more current record. We are stopping at generation 8 for the present work but will print the names of the children of gen. 8 if we have them.

For over 30 years, we have accumulated civil records and other genealogical data to use to help people improve their lineages. Many have submitted their work to the project. About ten years ago Judith went through these records and documented many of them from the civil records in Greenbrier, Nicholas, Fayette, and Bath counties.

The following pages are a record taken from the McClung Genealogy and the documentation notes. We are making this available to you via this website. The following are files beginning with the listed pages.

A few years back Joseph Groves collected lineages from many of you and did this same project but was not using IBM compatible equipment. It is not certain that you were noted as the contributor. However, H. R. McClung has made a hard copy of all this work and we will be going through it to add to this record. The site will be updated periodically. If you find your record here and wish to add to it, please contact us via email.

The individuals in the record will be given their own unique identifying number and this will be used in a general index to the work. The indexing is barely begun and takes almost as much effort as the entries. As soon as it appears that most families are entered, the indexing will be taken up.

For the present, the work is entered according to page numbers in the original book. We will be using the original numbering system of two digits: first designates order of birth and the second, the generation down from John, the emigrant from Scotland.

We have separated the work into small files according roughly to page numbers. This will enable us to add to the records more easily as we continue this work. Until the index is completed, you will need to know the page number of your family in the original printing.

Whenever there is a discrepancy in the record between the civil record and the original work, the civil record will be used. Occasionally both will be noted.

You are welcome to print out any or all of this website. It is here for you to use. Just be aware that we are going to be continually updating.
