Alexander M. McClung

Lost Limb: Alexander M. McClung

Alexander M. McClung was born 1811 in Kentucky. In the 1810 census we have a William McClung in Mason Co. (p. 260) and a Samuel in Bourbon Co. (p. 69). The father of Alexander is probably one of these two men. We have not yet been able to find these men in the McClung Genealogy.

In 1830 we found no McClungs in the Arkansas census index. Alex appears in the 1840 in Sevier County. We may find his marriage record there. He married Nancy about 1847. She was born in Arkansas in 1816. That is very early for Arkansas. Sevier County was formed in 1828 from Hempstead and Miller counties.

It would appear that Alexander lived the remainder of his life in Sevier County. By 1850 he and Nancy had a son, Alexander who was two years old. They were living in Jefferson township. Townships changed but they might have moved. By 1860 they are in the Paraclifton township and that is the name of their post office. They had acquired over $5000 worth of property. The son, Alexander is given as 12 years old and there were no other children surviving.

Alexander died between 1860 and 1870 as Nancy is widowed at age 54. She is still living in Sevier County but we do not find her son with her. This was the period of the civil war so that might have affected this family.
