Randy McClung's obituary from the newspaper is now posted:Obit

We have also received a large packet with the update for Hugh McClung of Alabama from John McClung of MN: Hugh McClung

Be sure to keep an eye on the McClung Journal postings. We are adding some nearly every week. We no longer publish the Journal in booklet form but more information is becoming available all the time. We are trying to get it posted as it comes in. Many changes are happening in the Georgia lines at present. Several censuses have come in and we will be posting those in the next few weeks. Database

I hope you find these updates of interest.

The McClung Family Association Newsletter

Subject: McClung Research

We are receiving a few queries on the Greenbrier McClungs but the bulk of recent research has been for the southern McClungs. Currently we are trying to sort out the early Georgia families. We are posting the research both in documents to the Journal Index and also trying to put the information into the family files.

The Research Log will give you an idea of the project: Log

You will find the early tax records and land records of Georgia posted: Georgia Taxes

The Georgia Land Lotteries are interesting because they show counties of residence so we can track these families.

The early census records show some new information. Reuben researchers: it looks like another son and two more daughters. Early Georgia Censuses. You will need to find out who these are.

Bill Davenport has written to send in his listing of the descendants of Robert McClung. He also has the Revolutionary War Pension records for the John McClung who signed up in SC. It seems that this John was the one in the early Wilkes/Warren county records. So now we will need to sort out two early Johns in Georgia: Robert. Robert is probably the son of John, the Rev. War Soldier. Bill is descended from Robert's son, Leroy. We do not yet have all that posted. It will take a couple of days, probably.

Be sure to see: John's Applications for revolutionary war service. This man really got around, didn't he? He must have been an amazing person. Bill has some more of these documents to share but they will need to be transcribed and we know what a job that is.

Carl McClung has sent in some updates on his line that we have not at this moment added.

Hope you enjoy getting the updates to see what is happening with our McClung records. You can tell from the Research Log that a lot will be happening soon. I only have a month to read these when they come in.

Subject: New McClung records

We have posted several new additions to the Journal entries from the Georgia records: Putnam County. This is the probate record from 1808 not of John but for GEORGE ! Someone indexed this incorrectly.

Deed Index from Greene County, GA reveals George's wife's name and strong connection between John and Reuben. Greene Co Deeds

The Jackson County Marriages have only Jonas and Sewell: A HREF="Ga-Jacksn.htm"Jackson County. Jackson County Deed Index raises more questions. Who is this William doing business in 1816? Reuben's William was only 17 and the early William from Wilkes Co. was in Blount Co., TN. Maybe he came down to sell this land? Who is this Elizabeth? Jackson Co. Deeds

This seems to be a repeat of a previous source. It is from the GA Land office: Georgia Land.

We can put together a better chronology of John McClung, Sr. - Revolutionary Soldier. We are able to pull more records together because of the pension records. We should shortly be able to sort out John and George's families.

1763--------born in PA
ca 1773-----brought to Wilkes Co., GA with family
1779, May---enlisted in the Revolutionary War
1782--------joined Militia in GA
1780-1806---in Wilkes/Warren Co., GA
1806-1810---moved to Buncomb Co. NC
1810--------enumerated in Haywood Co., NC (cut from Buncomb in 1808)
1810-1814---moved to Pendleton Dist. S.C.
1814-1816---in Arkansas Territory
1816-1820---moved to Morgan Co., AL . . (there is a John in Oglethorpe Co., GA in 1820)
1820-1822---moved to McMinn Co., TN (formed in 1819 but no returns for 1820)
1822-1833---residing in Smith County TN
1824--------married Nancy Luster in Smith Co., TN
1833-44-----residing in Sumner Co., TN where he died

Possible children for this man in Georgia are:

Reuben b. 1785 in GA (note that his first son was named William; 2nd son John M.)
Jonas b. 1787 in GA (note that this first son was named William E.)
John (who md Rebecca Nix) b. 1793 in GA
Robert b. 1797 in Warren Co., GA.
Drucilla b. 1798 in GA
Hiram b. 1802 in GA
Sewell b. 1804 in GA

Of course, these people could also have been children of George. Some may belong to either. We will need further records to sort out these families.

George's record has changed a bit also. George
