Maxine Mae Hilliard McGuire was born March 19, 1917 in Attica, KS the
daughter of Albert Andrew and Orpha Miller Hilliard. She passed away on
January 7, 2003 at Harper, Kansas. Except for her college years she was
a life long resident of Attica.
Maxine graduated from Attica High School in 1934 and then attended
Emporia State Teacher's College (Emporia, KS). In 1936 she transferred
to the University of Kansas in Lawrence from which she graduated in 1938
with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Business.
After attaining her degree, she returned to Attica where she was
employed in the family bank, The First National Bank of Attia. She
served in several bank offices including President. After her
retirement from the bank she and her husband, a retired farmer, pursued
their love of fishing and travel.
Maxine was always known for her intelligence and ability to think
quickly on her feet, leading to her being a champion debater in high
school. It would be hard to find a resident of Harper or Barber
Counties who did not know and like Maxine. She would always have a good
story or joke to tell, and would always know the latest scores of her
favorite sports teams.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, John McGuire of Attica; her
sister, Margaret Hilliard Robinson of Shawnee, Oklahoma; nephews John A.
Robinson, M.D. also of Shawnee, and Tom H. Robinson of Dallas, Texas;
grandniece, Karen E. Robinson and grandnephew, Stuart C. Robinson both
of Shawnee.
