Canada:
We have had interest expressed in the Canadian cousins.  See Jack Scott's query below.  Richard Cheney did some work on the Canadians years ago.  Does anyone have a copy of his work?

Some of our people may have gone north during the Revolution.  Many Loyalists did.

Alabama:
The Hugh Jr. line has been updated with Ralph and Emily McClung's contributions.

Georgia:
The origins of the first McClungs in Georgia are being researched.  Since Robert was first at Wrightsboro, we are investigating that little town.  Turns out it was of Quaker origins.  See this site sent in by Bill Davenport:
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/2064/wrights.htm

Maryann Gentzel sends us this note:
Wrightsborough, Wrigtsboro was a Quaker community that is no longer in existence.  It was located near present day Thomson, which may be in McDuffie County in East Ga. on I-20.  Warren County is just to the west of Thomson and Ogelthorpe, Jackson and Clarke Counties are NW.

We have located in an index that William McClung died in 1786 in Richmond County.  This record is recorded in a probate book called AB.  I have not been able to find where that book has been microfilmed so I can send for it.  Is there anyone in the area who could check at the courthouse for a book called AB.  He died intestate so there really should be a file for the procedings.  Have not found that Georgia kept these but I have not been in the courthouses, just sending for microfilm copies.   This William is probably the one from Delaware.  We remember that Drucilla said her parents were from Delaware and this may be the progenitor.  It would be very important to all the Georgia descendants to learn more about this William.  He was likely the immigrant as a normal lifetime would put his birth back in Ireland.  Bill Davenport has noted that the McC Gen (1904) did not have this man's descendants recorded correctly and probably skipped a generation.  We hope that the intestate procedings would list his heirs.  If we can identify this man, we may be able to fit the whole Georgia file into the PA/VA group. Does anyone have an idea of how we could access this record?

From this we see that Samuel Bellah (spelled here Bellough) was in Jackson County.  He may have been a brother to Soldier John's wife.  Samuel was witness to the land transactions in Greene and Oglethorpe counties where Robert Linn deeded to Reuben via John in 1796.

From Campbell County Marriage Records we have located two more McClung women:
1.  Hannah McClung md James Kenady 12 Nov 1835 by T.W. Garner, JP.
2.  Eliza (Elizabeth) McLung md John McElwreath 29 Dec 1839 by A.W. McLarty, JP.
Hannah would have probably been born 1815-20 and Elizabeth around 1820 if they were marrying at about age 18.  Looking at the chart for the children/grandchildren of John, we have two girls for whom we had no names in that time period.  They are the oldest daughters of Reuben.  Since we have Reuben as a resident of Campbell Co. in the 1840 census, we feel confident that these were his two oldest daughters.  Does anyone have any other record of these two ladies:  Hannah Kennedy and Elizabeth McElwreath?

Maryland:
We have posted the main outline for what we have so far from Maryland.  If your ancestors were from this Maryland line, please check our record and see if you can improve it.  We have heard from an interested party in the past couple of months.

Mississippi:
A search on the internet turned up this link for a McClung in the Civil War in Miss.  Maybe someone knows about this one:
http://www.misscivilwar.org/wwwboard/old/messages/1614.html

Pennsylvania:
We have begun to post the beginnings of the Pennsylvania family:  The Descendants of James 1-1 from the first part of the old McClung Genealogy, 1904.   As this begins to take better shape, we hope descendants will begin to send in updates.

Virginia:
We are going back through past Journals to pull out the references to Virginia.  We hope to post these shortly.  We are also looking for the updates that were published in the past.  Randy McClung collected this data and since he died, we do not have access to his records except for what was published in the Journals.

Queries:

My name is Patricia Dianne McClung Garrard, and I have been trying to find my ancestors but that's hard to do because my Granddaddy and Grandmother didn't leave us much to go on except for a story about three McClung brothers that came from Ireland to America.  My Granddaddy lived in Gadsden, Al. until he died. I do know that he had relatives in AL. and GA.  His name was George Sheldon (or Shelton) McClung he married Novella Morgan and they lived in AL. all my life. My Father (James William McClung) was born in Ft. Payne, AL. and lived in Tennesse all my life.  My Granddaddy's father's name was John William McClung (b: 3/22/1867-d: 4/21/1956) wife; Alley Clementine Tucker (b: 1/19/1870-d: 8/7/1930)  Alley's father was Joe Tucker.  Granddaddy's brother's and sister's were as follows:
Joseph Newman (b: 4/9/1888)  Sarah Calista (b: 10/16/1889)
William Marion (b: 10/8/1891)  Grover (b: 9/6/1892) Robert Clinton (b: 10/21/1895)  John Preston (b: 9/24/1897) (my daddy called him Uncle Press, I remember him)  Young Newton (b: 10/24/1899)   Minnie Leona or Leana (b: 12/5/1901) I'll never forget her, she came and stayed with us a week and I loved her to death.  George Shelton (b: 12/14/1903)  Henry Melton (b: 1/31/1905)  Nallie Clementine (b: 9/10/1908) Cambley Ida (b: 7/9/1910) and last is a set of twins that apparently died at birth because there are no names given (b: 3/2/1912). Please let me know if this is the same McClung's that your looking for because I also have a list of death dates and marriage dates and spouses.  You can e-mail me at [email protected] or call me at (256) 451-7379.  If there is no answer, please leave a message on my answering machine with a phone number and I will return your call.  I feel quite sure this is the McClung's your looking for and I would love to talk to you.  There are also a lot of McClung's in Ft. Payne, Al. and also in Trenton, Ga. and I know they are related to me because my mother (Ruth) knew them, but she's dead now too.

Jack Scott from Canada: .   Our most famous McClung is the Canadian suffragrette
Nellie McClung who fought and won the right of women to be legally called persons in Canada.

Although she was an advocate of a broad range of issues, her successful leadership was applied to her constant causes: women's suffrage and prohibition. She started public speaking by giving readings (called recitals), as an author. However, she soon developed into a lecturer, accepting speaking engagements on suffrage and temperance. She was a prominent speaker for the Liberal Party in the Manitoba provincial elections of 1914 and 1915. Her effort was rewarded in 1916 when Manitoba became the first province to give women the right to vote and to run for public office. After moving to Edmonton, she continued the campaign for suffrage in Alberta. In 1916, the fight was won at the federal level. She was one of "Famous Five" (Irene Parlby, Henrietta Muir Edwards, Emily Murphy and Louise McKinney) who, in 1927, submitted a petition for an interpretation of the word "Person" in section 24 of the British North America Act, 1867. The decision on October 18, 1929, (Persons Case) found that "Person" includes female persons, thereby making women eligible for appointment to the Senate of Canada

I have not connected The Rev James McClung who married Annie Meharry and his son Robert Wesley McClung who married Nellie Mooney (McClung) but I will.

My wife's grandmother is Sarah Catherine Knisely (nee McClung) wife of Cyrus Knisely
