would like to be added to your association. I am a descendant of Susan McClung. From a merky past we
have discovered that Susan's parents are likely Joseph and Jane Wilson McClung. I would like a marriage
record, perhaps showing that they are indeed her parents. She married Luna Davis O'Neal probably in
Erath County, Texas. They moved from Texas to Pine River, Colorado. Susan died from complications
resulting from childbirth after her last child, John Ballinger O'Neal was born. Her husband remarried
and moved around. Landing in New Mexico for a time. My grandmother, Nora O'Neal Baker, married in Deming, New Mexico and lived there the rest of her life. Perhaps you could connect us with the person who submitted the information to the Hugh McClung descendants entry which appears on the internet which tells of her marriage and her children.
Thank you so much,
--- Robert Baker

SOUTH CAROLINA McCLUNGS:
From: Bryan Terry ([email protected]) : ( a letter to Carl McClung)
I was in touch with you a couple of years back on the McClung family. At that
time I believe you e-mailed a story to me on Jemima from a Wesley descendant.
The story said that Jemima was originally a McClung, the sister of the James
in Newberry. She married a man and after several years he deserted her and
the children. Jemima changed her name back to McClung and the children did
likewise. Do you remember that story? Please let me know and if you have any
other details. After looking at this again after several years, the only
person I have been able to find that says Jemima was a Crawford was Bess
Reynolds. No other documentation or other records on that at all. I have
since looked at the Newberry census a lot closer and have found that in 1810
and 1820 there is a woman know as Jemima Mann that is listed in the same
location that Jemima McClung is in 1830. She is near James McClung in both
the 1810 and 1820, the same spot Jemima McClung occupies in the 1830 near Mary
McClung and her children. The Mann's are a well documented family in Newberry
County, but no mention of a Jemima Mann is made. What do you think? Please
let me know if you have any other information on this. I guess we need to see
some land records in Newberry County. One other point of information. James
McClung was the executor for John Mann in 1805 in Newberry.>
Note; We have not added this to the site without the documentation.
Thanks Bryan Terry

QUERIES:

I have been researching the family of Jesse Minter of various counties in West Virginia (Greenbrier,
Monroe, Fayette, etc) and found his second wife, Mary Lewis Minter, in the household of Samuel and
Elizabeth McClung in 1850 in Greenbrier County. Mary was also listed in her husband, Jesse's, household
that same year in Alleghany County (the censuses for these counties were taken on different dates). Mrs.
Elizabeth M. McClung, "friend", reported the death of Mary Minter, wife of Jesse Minter, in 1859. I
have found some of the children in the McClung household, Sarah L., Austin and Augustus, named in your
site as the children of "Col. Samuel McClung". I have not been able to find anything on his wife of
1850, Elizabeth M. McClung. Do you have anything on her or do you know her maiden name? I thought
perhaps it might have been Lewis as her daughter, Sarah L.., was listed in the site pages as "Sarah
Lewis McClung". I am trying to find what relation Elizabeth M. McClung was to the Jesse Minter family,
whether it was to Mary Lewis Minter only or if there was a wider relationship. Jesse Minter was the son
of Richard Minter of Powhatan County and married his first wife, Mary (Polly) Bosang, in Staunton in
1802. Her widowed mother, Elizabeth Bosang married, ca. 1793, "Major" Robert Bailey. Both the wives of
Jesse Minter and his first wife's mother and sister are buried in the Old Stone Cemetery in Lewisburg.

I am Melissa Fales (Bourn). I am from a branch of the McClung family from Summersville, WV. My
grandfather was Jay R. McClung born Jan 8, 1895. His father was Charles Allen McClung born in 1862.
His father was Alexander McClung whose father was William "Chunky" Bill McClung. I was looking to find
more information on our family tree and possibly some details about each of the generations. I just
found this website, so there might be information there that will help.
