JOHN BOUGHTON
Son of Timothy and Martha [Scott] Boughton born Poundridge, NY (located North West of Milford, CT) May 2, 1770, died Scipio, Cayuga County, NY Mar. 25, 1824, buried Scipio Baptist Church Yard, married 1. South Britain, Southbury, CT Feb. 1, 1793 CURRANCE GARRET or CURRANCE DOWNS, daughter of Abigail Stanclift, born South Britain, Southbury, CT Nov. 1, 1773, died Scipio, Cayuga County, NY May 3, 1810, the grave of Currance was in the yard at the Baptist Church of Scipio and was marked in 1890 with a marble tablet(1). John Boughton married 2. ABIGAIL STILSON. Abigail was probably Abigail [Beardsley] Stilson, the widow of Zerah Stilson.
Currance was an illegitimate daughter of Abigail Stancliff and after Abigail Stanclift's marriage to Ebenezer Downs she took the name Downs. She was treated in Ebenezer Down's will as one of his own children.
John and Currance moved to Scipio, Cayuga County, NY in 1797 with a yoke of oxen pulling their wagon, the trip took twenty one days. They seemed to be in the first echelon of pioneers from the Woodbury and Southbury area to settle in Scipio, NY, and others in the family either accompanied them or followed soon after. John and Currance were instrumental in organizing the Baptist Church in Scipio in which her uncle, James Stancliff, and cousin William Stancliff were later deacons.

1. WILLIAM BOUGHTON born Southbury, CT Jan. 23, 1794, died Pipestone, Berian County, MI Oct. 11, 1864. He moved as a three year old with his family to Scipio, Cayuga County, NY. He married 1. Scipio, Cayuga County, NY Feb. 5, 1817 ANNA WAKELEY daughter Elder Abner and Ruth A. [____] Wakeley born CT Oct. 5, 1794, died Nunda, Livingston County, NY Dec. 14, 1831. They lived Ulysses (now Enfield), NY and Nunda, NY. He married 2. MELINDA ENOS and moved again in 1836 to Berrian County, MI.
2. JOHN BOUGHTON JR born Southbury, CT June 18, 1796 died Huron, OH (between Vermillion and Sandusky on the lake shore) Dec. 12, 1864. He moved as an infant to Scipio, NY. He married Scipio Jan. 27, 1820 SUSAN BENEDICT daughter of Andrew(2) and Sally [Brown] Benedict born Lysle, NY Feb. 2, 1800 died North Fairfield, OH June 26, 1888.
3. JAMES SCOTT BOUGHTON born Scipio, Cayuga County, NY Dec. 17, 1798 died Perry, Wyoming County, NY Nov. 21, 1865, married Scipio Dec. 24, 1820 ABIGAIL HOYT or Haight born Mar. 13, 1802, died Carlisle, Wyoming County, NY Jan. 8, 1858. After death of Abigail he moved to Perry, NY and was active in the Baptist Church there.
4. ABIGAIL BOUGHTON born Scipio, Cayuga County, NY Mar. 8, 1801, died Scipioville, NY July 25, 1840, buried Evergreen Cemetery. She married Ledyard, Cayuga County, NY Jan. 31, 1825 SQUIRE ALWARD son of William and Elizabeth [Cross] Alward born Baskin Ridge, Somerset County, NJ. May 18, 1800, died Nunda, Livingston County, NY Oct. 30, 1873. They lived Scipioville and were active in the Baptist church where James Stancliff was a Deacon. Some of their children moved on to Michigan and to Elkhart County, IN.
5. DAVID BOUGHTON born Scipio, Cayuga County, NY Mar. 21, 1803, married 1. Scipio, NY MARY C. BEACH daughter of Asa and Elizabeth [____] Beach born Lisle, Broome County, NY May 23, 1803 died Fleming, Cayuga County, NY Nov. 16, 1835. David married 2. Victory, Cayuga County, NY ANNIE C. CROFUT daughter of John and Betsey [____] Crofut born Bristol, Ontario County, NY June 13, 1813. Both of them still living 1885 at Triangle or Barker, Broome County, NY. He too was active in the Baptist Church.
6. EBENEZER DOWNES BOUGHTON born Scipio, Cayuga County, NY Mar. 20, 1805, died Fostoria, Seneca County OH Nov. 8, 1875, buried Fostoria Cemetery, married Ledyard, NY Nov. 11, 1824 MARY ANN HOYT who died Fostoria May 17, 1868 in 61st year. They were active in the Baptist Church in Scipio. Moved to Fostoria in 1834
7. ALANSON BOUGHTON born Scipio, Cayuga County, NY May 23, 1807 died Moravia, Cayuga
County, NY Jan. 1, 1886. He was a Baptist Minister. He married 1. Apr. 15, 1829 CHARLOTTE
KEELER daughter Jeremiah and ____ Keeler (Jeremiah Keeler's first wife had been Alanson's
Aunt Martha Boughton). She died Sept. 12, 1835 Janesville, Onondaga County, NY. He married
2. Janesville Mar. 29, 1836 HANNAH SQUIRE born New Baltimore, NY Mar. 10, 1817 He was
living 1886 in Lawrence, Douglas County, KS. They moved to Volney, Oswego County, NY and
he preached at Nonesuch and Sepronius, Cayuga County, NY. He also preached at Milan and
Locke and lived at Morovia, Cayuga County, NY. Some of his children moved to Freeborn
County, MN.
