OREN GOFF FAMILY
(167) EUNICE or EMMA5 STANCLIFT(1) (Lemuel4, Comfort3, James2, James1)
Daughter of Lemuel and Mehitable [Goff] Stanclift born McKean, Erie County, PA July 10, 1804, died 1886, married 1. Erie County, PA about 1824 her cousin ORRIN GOFF son of Bethuel Goff, who was a brother of Mehitable [Goff] Stanclift. He was born probably Montpelier, Washington County, VT either 1794 or 1804, died McKean, Erie County, PA Mar. 5, 1842 � 38 years or � 48 years, buried Stanclift Cemetery on Lemuel's farm(2).
They lived Medina County, OH shortly after marriage, but returned to Erie County, PA by 1840 and lived near Lemuel's farm, and they had three young sons by this date(3). After Orrin's death Eunice lived for a year or more on the Stanclift family farm with the family of her brother, David. She then married 2. in Erie County, PA AMOS WILCOX and they lived on the Wilcox farm in McKean, Erie County, PA. They sold out and moved to Ashtabula County, OH, leaving there for Fremont, IN where Amos Wilcox died. Eunice went to live with her son, Arzo Goff, in New York City for a time, but once again she returned to Freemont, IN.
CHILDREN: Orrin and Eunice or Emma [Stanclift] Goff
1. ARZO or ORRIN GOFF born PA 1828, married McKean, Erie County, PA Apr. 24, 1851 HARRIET KNEELAND by Rev. J. M. Williams(4). In 1850 he appeared in the Census and was listed as the Postmaster of McKean. He was living in the household of a merchant named Francis Lamson and Richard C. Wilcox also listed as a merchant, was in the household(5). Richard was probably the son of Amos Wilcox. Arzo lived in New York City(6). David Stanclift said that Orrin was partly crippled by a swelling on his leg. He believed that Orrin was an Advertising Agent while he lived in New York City and had a Regalia Manufacturing Plant in Washington, D. C. He had no children.
2. OSMAN D. GOFF born 1830, died Fremont, Steuben County, IN before July 1868(7). He served during the Civil War from three different states. He spent three months in the Nineteenth Ohio Volunteer Infantry, a year in the Eighty-third Pennsylvania as a Second Sergeant and subsequently as a Sergeant Major in the One Hundred and Twenty-ninth Indiana. He was married and was a chairmaker by trade.
3. BETHUEL J. GOFF(8) born Erie County, PA June 29, 1834, married Erie County, PA 1858 AMY D. SWARTHOUT born Genesee County, NY Sept. 1, 1835. They had six children, only two mentioned in Steuben County History, they were James O. Goff and Bethuel Arthur Goff. Bethuel enlisted in the Navy in 1854 for four years. When the Civil War broke out he saw extensive service as an officer in the Union Army, was wounded and after time in the Hospital at Annapolis, MD he was discharged Nov. 1, 1862. While he was in the service his family moved to Montcalm County, MI but in 1863 lived briefly in Fremont, IN, returned to MI and in 1881 settled permanently in Fremont, Steuben County, IN. He owned a grocery store.
4. ORRIN FLETCHER GOFF(9) was a member of the Twenty-third Indiana Battery, and died of fever at East Tazwell, TN. In David Stanclift's Memoirs Fletcher was called the youngest son.
CHILDREN: Amos and Eunice [Stanclift] Goff Wilcox
5. HELEN WILCOX died young as the result of a tragic fall from a ladder.
