Son of William and Sarah [____] Stancliff born NY December 3, 1844, died of pneumonia December 21, 1911, buried Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Baltimore County, MD, married 1. a woman who died in Baltimore, MD married 2. Lawrence, Long Island, Nassau County, NY by Rev. Terry February 26, 1868 ALICE E. DODGE born NY 1854(1), died before 1900.
Henry enlisted May 10, 1862 (or August 13, 1862) in Company I, 119th Regiment of the New York Volunteer Infantry with the rank of drummer, and was discharged June 7, 1865 at Bladensburg, Prince Georges County, MD(2). The 119th Regiment of the New York Infantry was with the Union Army of the Potomac at the Battles of Chancellorsville, Spotsylvania County, PA on 1-4 May 1863 and at the Battle of Gettysburg, Adams County, PA on 1-3 July 1863.
In 1880 Henry and Alice lived in Hempstead, Queens County, NY. In 1900 he was living with his son-in-law Henry W. Roles (a fisherman) and his daughter Mary J. [Stancliff] Roles in Ann Arundel County, MD where he was a farm laborer. At age 62 in 1906 he was described as 5 ft., 3 in. tall with a light complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, and weighing 128 lbs. His occupation was listed as laborer. In 1907 he was living at the National Soldier's Home at Washington, Rhea County, TN. Lottie M. [Stancliff] Broughon was the beneficiary of his life insurance policy with John Hancock Mutual Life.
