                                 LOVELESS and McPHEETER FAMILIES

(89) HANNAH5 STANCLIFF (Stanbrough P.4, James3, William2, James1)

Daughter of Stanbrough Perigrine and Sibbel [Davis] Stancliff born Hamilton Township, Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada 1800(1), married 1. Athens County, OH Sept. 14, 1819 NATHAN LOVELESS(2) son of John and Racheal [Van Hook] Loveless(3) born 1780, died sometime before 1839. Nathan's brother William Loveless lived in 1850 in Perry Township, Pickaway County, OH, next to John Durham. In the 91 year old John Derum's household was Mary [Durham] Blue and daughter, Nancy Blue. Nancy would later marry Thomas Stancliff, son of David B. Stancliff. Hannah married 2. by 1826, ANDREW McPHEETER, born 1782 in VA, died Ross County, OH Nov. 3, 1853 71 years, 7 months and 18 days(4), buried in Sigler Cemetery.

Andrew McPheeter lived Jackson Township, Jackson County in 1820 before he married Hannah Stancliff. He had in his household this date a female between 26 and 45 and three young females(5). Andrew and Hannah lived Washington Township, Jackson County, OH in 1830, very near Daniel and Betsy [Stancliff] Duhadway, who was Hannah's sister(6). Andrew was enumerated in the 1840 Census and at that date there were five children in the family fitting the ages of those below. They had moved by that date to Jefferson Township, Ross County(7). There was a Jane Throckmorton living near them with children in her family. This may be Hannah's sister Sarah "Jane" [Stancliff] Throckmorton, widow of Elijah. In 1850 they still lived Jefferson Township, Ross County, OH(8).

On Jan. 15, 1836 Andrew McPheeter purchased 43.8 Acres NW 1/4 NE 1/4 Sec.12, Township.7 Range 20(9). He also owned land in Washington Township, Jackson County, OH consisting of 80 Acres S 1/2 SE Sec.29 Township.8 Range 18 and is on the 1828 list for chattel property having two cows. David Stancliff on same list with three cows. The original owner of the 80 acres was Charles McKinnis and it is interesting to note that Daniel Duhadway is found in the 1850 Jackson County census living, along with his youngest daughter Lydia, in the home of William McKinnis born 1818 and Elizabeth his wife born 1819, who is Daniel's daughter "Betsy".

After Andrew McPheeter's death, Hannah moved with her son, George, to Marion County, IL. Hannah's brother, James Stancliff, and a 7 year old Joseph Stancliff, was with them. This family group was counted twice in the 1860 Census, with varying ages, inexact spelling of names, and in different combinations, making the precise location of their home and make-up of the family uncertain. On July 13, 1860 the Census indicated that "James Stanchef" was the head of household, George McPheeter and a "Nancy" McPheeter born IN 1808 were with him. Even though it says she was born "in Indiana", this is probably Hannah [Stancliff] McPheeter, since Nancy was then the accepted nickname for Hannah. They were living in Town 1, Range 3, which is Haines Township(10). On August 3, 1860, James Stancliff, and Josiah Stancliff age 7, were living with George and Hannah McPheeter in Town 2, Range 3, P.O. Salem, which is Stevenson Township, and this time George was head of household(11). On August 24, Joseph Stancliff age 7 was present in household of the Chesterton family, P.O.Rome, Stevenson Township.

In 1850 Census they have a son named Thomas P. Hollis born 1849 and they live next door to Andrew and Hannah [Stancliff] McPheeter, her parents(17). In 1860 there is an unusual Census record in which "Valeria McFeters" age 30 and Hannah McFeters age 28 were living in Jefferson Township, Ross County, OH with what appears to be two groups of children, totaling nine in all and all under the age of nine years and all bearing the surname "McPheeter"(18).
