WILLIAM D. McQUISTON FAMILY
(489) ISADORA7 STANCLIFFE "Dora" (Sanford L.6, Chester Haven5, Eldah4, Josiah3, William2, James1)
Daughter of Sanford Luther and Emma Julia [Fleming] Stancliff born KS 1878, died Hammond, Lake County, IN Apr. 6, 1900(1), married Polk County, IA Apr. 29, 1895 WILLIAM D. McQUISTON(2) son of William and Margareth [____] McQuiston born IN Sept. 1872. William and Margareth McQuiston came to this country in 1867.
Dora died young, and two months after her death, William McQuiston was living in the household of his parents in Hammond, Lake County, IN. William was an Engineer at a glue factory at that date. Dora's letters to her mother had mentioned the glue factory. He had two young children with him, and included in his parents household was not only a younger brother, Wilson McQuiston, but also a german girl named Minnie "Dravance", termed a servant(3). Minnie Dravance born Germany Dec. 1883, had come to this country at age 1 in 1884. Ten years later William married a woman named Minnie born at about the same time. They lived in the household of the senior William McQuiston, and in the Apr. 15, 1910 census it said that they had been married for 1/12 or one month(4). The Lake County, IN Marriage Records indicate that William married on Apr. 12, 1910 Minnie Ulrich not Dravance, and the Birth records specifically cite her as mother of (unnamed) male children born Hammond, IN Mar. 11, 1915 and Sept. 13, 1917. The two families continued to share a home, but in 1920 it was William McQuiston Jr. who was the head of household and they lived in East Chicago. Minnie in this census had not been previously married, was age 25, born IL and both parents born Germany. William and Minnie had at this time four sons, but both Nellie and Earl were living elsewhere(5).
