Hi, I am descended from Sarah (Sally) ROARK,(O'ROARK) b. 1768?,
I assume born in America. Her parents were Timothy O'ROARK (d.1811) and
Rachel.
Sarah and her brother James Roark, who had 2 sons - one named John, lived in Roark's Gap, Virginia. History has it that James
and son John Roark were killed by Shawnee Indians. Sarah married a Frenchman,
Emile MILLARD, I have Sarah's 2nd marriage was to John DESKINS in Virginia
or Kentucky. Their 1st child Daniel Deskins was born in 1788. This could
make Sarah born about 1760-70. I hope someone may find Sarah and James's
name in their history of the O'Roark genealogy as siblings as I am totally
stuck!!! Could anyone help me, please? Thank you, Diane Shortridge Reed

My grandmother was Ann(a) M. O'ROURKE and I am including her
genealogical information. Her grandfather was Patrick O'Rourke (the
family dropped the O'), who was b. in Ireland (county unsure) c. 1820. He
died before 1864 and was a coal miner. There were coal mines in Ireland,
although he may have moved to Scotland. He married Mary BURNS and their
son was John, b. in IRL c. 1841. John was my great-grandfather and was a
bricklayer. He moved to Scotland (Glasgow area) and there married
Isabella WILSON in 1864. Their first son was Francis, b. that year.( He
eventually moved to the U.S. and married Theresa GARVERY, by whom they
had a least one daughter, Madeline E., b. in 1904 in Hazleton, PA.
Francis died in Elyria, OHIO, in 1925.) John and Isabella, who settled
down in Lanarkshire (east suburbs of Glasgow: Airdrie, Mossend,
Motherwell, etc.); they had a daughter, Mary, in 1865 (d. 1935,
Tessfield Vue, Motherwell, LKS); another daughter, Ann Marie (my
grandmother) in 1867 (d. 1924,
Bangor, ME); a son, Daniel, b. 1869. In 1871 Isabella died and John
remarried to Bridget Dinnan in 1872. They had a daughter, Elizabeth, c.
1878. I don't know when he died.
My grandmother, Ann-Marie Rourke married my grandfather Peter J.
MacDonough in Lanarkshire in 1887. They had 13 children, the first two
(Mary F. and Frank) in Scotland. Then in 1890 or 1891 they moved to
Bangor, ME, where they had their remained 11 children and where they both
died. Her last child was named Frederick O'Rourke MacDonough, so she
respect and affection for the O'Rourke name thereby, even though the name
had been "anglicised" by the family long since.
The family line thus runs: Patrick O'Rourke>John O'Rourke>Ann-Marie
O'Rourke>John MacDonough (my father)>myself.

Top of the Mornin' to ya and a Blessed St. Patrick's Day!
My name is Micheil Maire Kathleen O'Rourke-Cole.
My O'Rourke Decendents (so far as I know...) are:
Thomas Richard O'ROURKE, born 1902 in Watkins Glen NY to Mary FERRAL and
Thomas Richard O'ROURKE I. Thomas Richard O'ROURKE is my grandfather and I
believe the only child of three that was US born. His sisters Kathleen and
Frances were born in Ireland(?). Thomas 2 married Lena Belle SMITH AUBLE of
Burdett NY. His sister Kathleen entered the convent of the Sister's of
Mercy when she was 16 and took the name Sister Mary Mercedes. Frances
married Tracy CLAUSEN and remained in Watkins.
Thomas and Lena had three children; my mother Thomasina, Thomas James
(T.J.) and Kathleen. I have hyphenated my married name and given it to my
youngest child as this family line is short. My other ancestors include
Gurnett and Sullivan all of Watkins Glen NY. I have searched the various
pages of the O'Rourke sites, albeit not extensively, and have not come
across this line. Thanks for the opportunity to share my ancestory... I
have told the legend for years of royal blood and impalings that I had
heard as a child....I shall share the legend's validity and pray the story
continues with my own children.

James Leo MURPHY, born 1861 Co. Cork, and sailed for New York in 1880 or

I have not been able to pin down their port of entry yet. They settled in

I have tried to call Sean O'S. at the Leitrim Historical Centre without
