Note: There is no one by the name of Johannes Hartmann found in the first two decades of the eighteenth century baptismal records from St. Bartholomaus congregation. Between 1714 and 1718, the time frame in which Johannes Hartmann should be born there are two Hartmann couples having children, Christophorus Hartman and his wife Agnes Saurland and Caspar Theodore Hartmann and his wife ... Isengart. These two men were brothers. There are only two male candidates baptized in Herstelle in the four year time span, Johannes Caspar Hartmann on 27 March 1716 and Johannes Henricus Hartmann on 26 May 1717. Neither is found in the burial records before 1745 when Johannes Hartmann marries Catharina Langmeyer. There is no marriage record for Johannes Caspar Hartmann at all. Johannes Henrich Hartmann married on 20 Apr 1749 with Anna Maria Scopmeier from Harten or Harbeck. The only reference in the church records to a Caspar Hartmann is as a witness to the marriage of Johannes Knüppel with Christina Lutterl in 1744. I suspect that this Caspar Hartmann was Caspar Theodore.
Unless Johannes Caspar Hartmann baptized in 1716 moved outside of the Herstelle-Wirrixen community and another unrelated Johannes Hartmann moved into the community, the Johannes who married Catharina Langmeyer is very likely one and the same as Johannes Caspar Hartmann. The age is at death is a perfect match with his birth/baptismal date. There is no other record of Johannes Caspar being buried or married and the priest made no notation about Johannes Hartmann being from other than Wirrixen or Herstelle. There do not appear to be any other appropriate choices. Therefore Johannes Hartmann is assumed to be Johannes Caspar Hartmann son of Christophorus and Agnes Saurlandt Hartmann.

Langmeier dicta Hartmann" is actually for Maria Catharina Langmeyer who married Johannes Hartmann and was 77 years and 9 months old.

This information was translated by Dr. Russell Jensen at the LDS library in Salt Lake City, Utah. This entry is a special dispensation from the bishop in Paderborn for the marriage of 'Henrici Lipman, vidui et Anna Maria Becker.' It is highly likely that the given name 'Henrici' is an error, since all evidence points to the marriage of Johannes Georg (AKA as Hans Jorgen and Jurgens) Lippmann. As a matter of fact, the heading for the Dispensation is between "Joem Geogium Lipman et Annam Mariam Becker," however in the body of the dispensation he is referred to as "Joes Henrici Lipman." Lipman was a widower (vide infra). The dispensation was made because the bride and groom were second cousins (although the exact relationship is not spelled out). Hans Jurgen Lippmann's father, Johannes Lippmann married first Anna Dorothea Reineken in 1691 and second Elisabetha Becker in 1695. Chronologically, Dorothea Reineken should be the mother of Hans Jurgen. It is possible that Johannes Lippmann's second wife Elisabetha Becker is related to Anna Maria Becker the wife of Hans Jurgen Lippmann or there is a connection between Anna Maria Becker and the Reineke line. The latter turns out to be the case. See notes under Anna Maria Becker wife of Lippmann. The entry states the couple shared an 'affinity in the third degree' which Dr. Jensen states refers to second cousins. The dispensation mentions children from the prior marriage of the groom.
This is a surprising entry since in this same church record there are clearly other inter-family marriages that do not even warrant a notation by the priest muchless a dispensation from a bishop. Note:  The baptismal record of Anna Maria Becker is easily identified in the register of St. Bartholomaus Catholic Church in Herstelle as 19 Oct 1705 where she is noted to be the daughter of Christoff Becker (witness Anna Catharina Schmit). [Actually there are several Anna Maria Beckers born during an appropriate time period but only the one identified here meets all the criteria encountered in the discussion below]. Identification of the father Christoff Becker and his wife is not so simple. There are many candidates.

Between 1705 and 1657 the following marriages for men named Christopf, Christofel, Stofell, etc are found:

One of these marriages produced Anna Maria Becker born 1705. Atleast the first marriage between Stoffel Becker and Anna Maria Kasten in 1707 can be eliminated since the baptismal record for Anna Maria Becker was not for an illegitimate child. Marriage five and six is likely for the same man. His last wife Eva Nolten Becker died at age 70 in 1719 making her 56 at the time of birth of Anna Maria, thus another unlikely candidate for parent of Anna Maria Becker. There are three remaining marriages all of which produced at least one child and most produced many children. Only two or three baptismal records mention both the father and the mother; usually the father's name is the only one supplied. Review of the names of witnesses does not distinguish between these marriages very easily. Baptismal records do discriminate between two contemparaneous Christophel Beckers who married two women named Reineken, Maria and Elisabetha. These cannot be consequent marriages of one man to two sisters.

Review of baptismal records for an appropriate Christophel Becker yielded the following candidates:

The only death with an appropriate birth record from the prior candidates is #9 Christophorus Becker died age 59 years 22 Nov 1724 [born 1665]. This matches #2 from the list of births Christophorus son of Hans Becker baptized 8 Mar 1665. What happened to the other four Christoph Beckers born between 1662-1669? They moved out of Herstelle or died without entry into the Roman Catholic church registers. But obviously ANY of the five Christoph Beckers could be the husbands of the women found in marriages between 1692 and 1707 and likewise ANY could be the father of Anna Maria Becker born in 1705. The candidates for mother of Anna Maria Becker remain either (1) Maria Reineken [1669-13 May 1707] (2) Elisabetha Reineken [?-?] or (3) un-named bride in the 29 Apr 1703 marriage.

The above situation is clarified by the entry for marriage of Anna Maria Becker and Hans Jurgen Lippmann in Herstelle on 29 Mar 1724. This marriage required a special dispensation from the Catholic Bishop in Paderborn because the husband and wife were related in the 'third degree' or another words were second cousins. The relationship comes about through the mother of Hans Jurgen Lippmann, Anna Dorothea Reineken. She was the daughter of Henrich Reineke and Anna Hodes. If the mother of Anna Maria Becker was either Maria or Elisabetha Reineke it would not matter to this argument since both were the daughters of Henrich Reineke and Anna Hodes producing cousins Hans Jurgen Lippmann and Anna Maria Becker. Unfortunately, this does not throw any more light on the question of which Christophel Becker married which of the Reineke sisters but it sure makes a complicated and interesting genealogical puzzle!

Note:  A child named Elisabetha, daughter of Christopfel Hartmann is baptized in 1652 before the recorded marriage with Catharina Michel. Whether Elisabetha is a child of the same Christophel Hartmann that married Catharina Michel and later Anna Landweber is not known, however circumstantial evidence would point to an older Christopfel Hartmann being a member of this congregation. The entry for Elisabetha does not state that she was illegitimate as acknowledged for some other entries in the baptismal register. Additionally, there is yet an earlier baptismal entry for a child of Christopfel Hartman found in 1645 named Ernestum whose witness was Hans Degener. In 1645, the Christopfel Hartmann followed here would have been only 15 if his age at death is at all correct. The explanations for these entries are that there may have been another older Christopfel Hartmann (see below); Christopfel Hartmann could have fathered two children out of wed-lock when very young, or the birth year is incorrect (as many birth years estimated from ages at death are) and Christopfel was married to an as yet unknown wife prior to Catharina Michel. Unfortunately, there are no marriage entries for any Hartmann in St Barthrolomaus' congregation before 1653. A burial for an adult named Christopfel Hartman is found on 22 October 1654. No age is given nor any other identifying information, however, my assumption is that he is the father of Ernestum and Elisabeth.
