Identifying 19th-century photographic subjects
can be a very difficult task.
Photographic technique (albumen print, tin-type,
etc) may narrow the field a bit
but dating photos is better undertaken through
the study of clothing,
accessories (jewelry, ties, so forth), hair styles
and props.
Identification of subjects in 19th-century photos
is a bit beyond the scope of
this web page, however there are many useful resources
for the amateur sleuth.
